I watched the time go by on the clock. I've been doing this for the last two hours. I couldn't sleep. There was too much on my mind. Not to mention, my former ex boyfriend was sleeping on my sofa. Ugh, I need something to drink.
Badly.
I got out of bed and tiptoed down the hallway into the kitchen. I grabbed a wine glass and the bottle of wine sitting on the counter. Taking a gulp I felt my body start to relax.
"Can't sleep either?" I heard a familiar voice say and I jumped in response spilling my drink.
"Shit," I said grabbing some napkins and wiping the floor.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," Dylan stated.
"S'alright. Are you okay?"
"Yea I'm okay. Just a lot on my mind plus the sofa isn't exactly comfortable."
"Single mothers salary," I responded picking up my half empty wine glass.
"I'm sorry Alice," he said walking towards me and I took a step back.
"Just don't Dylan, I don't know what I was thinking asking you to stay. What if I wake up in the morning and you're not here again?"
"I'd never do that to you."
"You did it before. You left me to raise a child on my own. You left me there Dylan. You didn't even stay long enough to watch Winter come into this world. We were supposed to be a family and you were gone. No letter, no explanation not even a text goodbye. You just disappeared and I never heard from you again."
"I already told you Alice! I thought that was what you wanted!"
"How could it be what I wanted when you and Eleanor were the only family I had. We were supposed to build a life together."
"I'm telling you the truth, Red. I had gone home that day and I found a note sitting on the bedside table. It was written to me from you! You told me to leave, said I wasn't needed anymore. I believed you were giving Winter up for adoption. Alice, I would've never left if I had known it wasn't from you. I should have fought for you though, even if it wasn't written by you."
"Do you - do you um, still have that letter?"
"Yeah, I take it with me everywhere. It's the last reminder I had of you."
"Can I see it?"
He nodded and turned around heading toward the living room. I followed him, my heart pulsing with every step. He pulled out an envelope from his bag and handed it to me. I opened it taking a deep breath. It wasn't the words that got to me. It was the style of the words.
"This writing is familiar," I told him.
"I thought so too, maybe we could ask Eleanor and see if she knows."
"No," I responded quickly and angrily.
"What's wrong?"
"Just a lot."
"I have time."
"Let's just get some sleep. Do you um- wanna sleep in my bed?"
"I'd like that."

I felt a hand brush against my cheek. Their thumb moved in a circular motion while the rest of their fingers were placed behind my ear. The action caused a small smile to appear. I opened my eyes and saw Dylan staring at me.
"Hi," I softly greeted.
"Hi," he responded never taking his eyes off of mine
"It's been a long time since I've woken up with someone else in my bed."
