Riley's POV
I sit on my bed trying to think of what to wear on my 'date' with Max tonight. I don't want to go too dressy because James would be mad, but not too casual because that might seem rude. I don't know, what do you wear for dinner with someone who's not your boyfriend?I decide on leggings, a crop top and blazer, finishing with combat boots with a slight heel. Not overly dressy, but not too casual. I straighten my short brown ombré hair, pulling back my bangs, then apply naturalistic makeup. I finish up when my phone buzzes, expecting it to be Max to say he's on his way but it's not.
James 👫💗- Riley tell me you're not actually doing this baby ❤️
Riley - it's too late James. This is for the team!!
James 👫💗 - really Riley? Or is it for you?!
Riley - what's that supposed to mean? You made your bed, now lie in it!
James 👫💗 - revenge for the Beth situation Riley. I'm not stupid
Riley - the world doesn't revolve around you James! This is for our friends, our team. Max and I need chemistry to win. Grow up!!
James 👫💗 - enjoy your little date Riley. It'll be the last you go on for a while.
Riley - wow, thank you James. I thought you'd understand that this is for our team but I guess not. Goodbye.
James 😐💔 - Really Riley?I sigh and look out my window, seeing Max pull up. I put my phone on silent and place it in my blazer pocket before heading downstairs.
...........................
My date with Max was exactly as I expected, awkward conversation and constant texts from James. It was worse than my first date with Charlie. Instead of going on further dates, like Kate would probably suggest, we just decided to fake the chemistry and hope it came from the trust in the duet. It's started to already, and we fly out to Miami in a matter of hours.James hasn't spoken to me in the past week, I've tried apologising but nothing. I want him in Miami more than anything, but I know he's made his decision and isn't changing that for anything. They're leaving for the festival tomorrow night, just to check out other acts.
I'm currently sat on my case in the airport, waiting for the final members of A-Troupe to arrive. I'm surrounded by parents, siblings and various others, all belonging to my team. Emily has been and gone, as have my parents.
I look to my left and see Noah hugging Richelle. To my right, a guy who just came through arrivals kissing a girl who was waiting for him. I miss James, and I feel like it's my fault he isn't even here.I whip out my phone and start texting him
Riley- James I'm sorry, you know the date was for the teams sake
Riley- at least talk to me?
Riley- you could of at least shown up to say goodbye like any other boyfriend would?
Riley- James please
Riley - James I love you, I know how much this gig means to you, and how much the band means to you. I should of been supportive, this is your big break baby. I would love to be there to support you. I've dreamt of being at your first proper gig for months, even waving you off on a plane and waiting at arrivals to meet you when you return. You'll probably find someone else while you're gone, someone who really supports you. But you need to know, I really do love you xx10 minutes later Eldon finally arrives and we check in, sending off our luggage, then head for security. Still no text from James.
"West?" I pipe up, noticing he's ahead of me in line to go through security
"Sup Riley?" He smiles casually
"Does James hate me?" I sigh, biting my lip
"Would you wear black to a wedding?" He asks randomly
"Maybe, but what does that-" I start but he cuts me off
"Is the dark reflective?"
"No? But"
"Ooh my turn to go through the magic door less frame" West smirks, heading towards where a security official was waiting. Was that West's way of saying no? Or West being West? Who knows.
James POV
I run up my stairs and throw my phone on charge, it died a few hours ago during band practise so I had no idea of the time. I head down to get pizza as my phone charges, where I get confronted by my mum.
"How was the team? Nervous I bet" she asks me excitedly
"What do you mean?" I return, clearly confused
"The flight? You didn't go say goodbye?" She gasps
"Wait the flight? That was today? Crap!" I run upstairs as fast as I can and see several texts from an hour or so ago
