Hey everyone, it's RaveDoggTV here! I wanted to take a moment to bring you all up to speed on recent discussions about my stories and to share my thoughts on the updated content guidelines that several creators have been buzzing about.
Lately, I've noticed a whirlwind of hysteria among writers and readers alike concerning these guidelines. With so many voices expressing their concerns, I decided to take the initiative to dive into the actual content guidelines myself to understand the fuss. After reading through them, I have to say, it's a bit perplexing to see so many people getting worked up over changes that seem more like clarifications than actual alterations. If anything, Wattpad is simply emphasizing that they uphold specific standards and are determined to enforce them to maintain a safe space for all users.
Now, let's break down some of the key topics that are at the forefront of everyone's minds right now.
First off, there's the issue of sexual content related to characters, which must involve individuals aged 18 and older. This guideline is quite straightforward. Wattpad's content policies clearly state that any romantic or sexual relationships portrayed in stories should complement the overarching narrative. If your work leans into mature themes, similar to what I'm exploring in Into the Light, then you can include explicit sexual scenes, provided they involve consenting adults (18+, or as directed by local, national, or international laws) and serve to enhance the story rather than distract from it.
Moving on, it is strictly prohibited to depict any sexual interactions involving minors. While elements like kissing between characters who are underage remain permissible, any form of romance or sexual contact between a minor and an adult is unequivocally a rule-breaker due to legal implications. Additionally, Wattpad necessitates strict boundaries around power-imbalance relationships. For instance, if a CEO leverages their authority to manipulate an employee into an unwanted advance, that dynamic is absolutely unacceptable on the platform.
Another key point worth discussing is the portrayal of mature content in general. It must contribute meaningfully to the narrative rather than serve as gratuitous filler. Think about it like this: If you're crafting a gritty mafia story and decide to include a scene involving torture, Wattpad isn't going to delete your story for doing so. However, the emphasis should be on avoiding glorification of violence. Writing scenes simply for shock value is discouraged—rather, they should be thoughtfully integrated to serve the overall storyline. The same reasoning applies to sexually explicit content; it's crucial that the narrative doesn't become overwhelmed by sexual scenes that overshadow the plot's integrity.
With that out of the way, let's address the elephant in the room: the long delay between chapter uploads. To be completely honest, this isn't about me feeling burnt out or running out of creative ideas. The truth is, I've found myself getting easily distracted by a myriad of other interests. Whether it's diving deep into the rich worlds of the Persona games or immersing myself in the epic landscapes of World of Warcraft, or even just spending quality time chatting with friends on Discord—these distractions have pulled me away from my writing. The reality is, I haven't carved out enough time to dedicate to my stories, and I recognize the need to change that.
Let me reassure you, I still have plenty of ideas simmering for the chapters I want to share. The issue is that the intervals between my uploads just keep getting longer and longer. I've actually contemplated the possibility of shifting Into the Light over to AO3 in search of rebuilding my story from the ground up, but after much thought, I've chosen to remain on Wattpad for now. It's where I started, and there's something comforting about that.
Additionally, I feel it's important to clarify my creative path moving forward. While I've poured a lot of passion into my Splatoon fanfiction, I don't want to be pigeonholed into just that. I've hinted at my desire to explore other genres and forms of content to broaden my horizons as a writer. While Splatoon will certainly remain my main focus, I'm excited to venture into different realms of storytelling. So, if you're following my work exclusively for Splatoon content, I encourage you to explore other creators who might align more closely with those expectations.
Prepare for some significant changes in the upcoming chapters. I believe Chapter 91, which I've titled "From the Shadows," will showcase the most extensive transformations yet. Thank you all for your continued support and patience. I hope you're as eager as I am to dive back into this journey together. Until then, take care, and I'll see you in the next chapter. Peace out!
