I could see the reaction on my butler's face at what he was witnessing, but he never said a word, let alone made a sound that could disturb the scene in front of him.

But what made my eyes widen was what Jungkook did next.

He leaned down to my height, his hands still firm around my waist as if letting me go would somehow make me disappear from his reach. His hand moved toward my nape before he casually pressed a soft kiss against it.

Just a small peck.

And somehow, that was enough to make heat rush to my face. Maybe it was the surprise, maybe the embarrassment, or maybe simply because I wasn't used to him doing something so gentle when someone else was standing right there.

This time, the butler moved, quietly taking his leave and giving us the privacy he probably knew we needed.

I looked back at Jungkook, trying to figure out what kind of mood he was in today, but there was nothing on his face that gave me an answer. As always, reading this man was nearly impossible.

All I could see was that same small smile resting on his lips, one that barely reached his eyes.

Less than thirty minutes later, we were in my room, and the moment I opened the door, it hit me.

The sweet scent of the withering roses still filled the room, except there was nothing peaceful about it anymore. It instantly brought the note back to my mind, and my heart started beating faster beneath every calm breath I tried to take.

I should have thrown them away.

"What were you so busy with this morning?"

Jungkook's voice suddenly pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned toward him and found him standing a few feet away, both hands tucked into his pockets. He looked as majestic as always, annoyingly calm despite the fact that I had spent the entire morning avoiding his calls.

"I was sleeping."

I tried to brush it off easily, but of course, Jungkook never accepted simple answers when he knew there was more behind them.

He took a slow step toward me, his composure never changing. When he reached me, his fingers moved over my cheek before his right hand gently cupped the side of my face.

"You look very tired for someone who slept that long."

His voice carried a mocking tone, almost like there was another meaning hidden beneath his words. I didn't dare look away, but he did, his eyes briefly shifting toward the corner of the room.

The bin.

"You know, you're a little late. I almost thought I could spend another night here."

I spoke lightly, trying to pull his attention back toward me.

"You're not spending another minute outside my mansion."

His answer came far too quickly.

And I caught it.

My eyes followed the direction of his gaze, landing on the bouquet of red roses still discarded inside the bin. Something twitched along his jaw.

"Why the sudden switch-up?"

I looked back at him, but Jungkook didn't meet my eyes right away. When he finally did, there was a small, almost smug smile resting on his lips.

"Because my wife was being a little arrogant."

"Well, I am your wife. I can be a little arrogant."

My voice dropped into a quiet whisper but Jungkook didn't react.
