Hours had passed since I returned from the warehouse, yet the conversation still lingered at the back of my mind like an unwanted shadow. No matter how many cigarettes I had gone through or how much work I had forced myself to sit through afterward, the man's words refused to leave

The entire estate slept peacefully around me now. The guards continued their routine patrols outside, the staff had long retired to their quarters, and the endless hallways of the mansion remained empty under the dim glow of lights

I stopped outside the bedroom door for a moment before pushing it open quietly and stepping inside

The room was dark except for the pale moonlight filtering through the windows. The curtains had been left partially open, allowing silver streaks of light to spill across the floor and stretch toward the bed

My gaze immediately found her sleeping figure

Y/n slept on her side, buried beneath the blankets, completely unaware of the eyes watching her

For a long moment, I simply stood there. The same way I had done countless times before

The moonlight softened her features, washing away the stubbornness and fire she carried whenever she was awake. There were no arguments now or no walls raised between us

The scratches on her skin had mostly been treated already. A few faint bandages remained visible against her arms

Her hair spilled loosely across the pillow, framing her face. She looked peaceful when she slept but fragile

I slowly made my way towards the bed, my eyes never leaving her

The room remained silent except for the soft ticking of the clock mounted against the far wall and the quiet rhythm of her breathing

You shouldn't be asking about Daniel. You should be asking about the girl.

My jaw clenched, that asshole hasn't left my mind yet, and he won't until i get the answers i am looking for

The more I looked at her, the less I could control my thoughts

She had lied and she was hiding things. Things she herself probably didn't understand

I lowered myself onto the edge of the mattress carefully, making sure not to wake her

My gaze travelled across her face again. My eyes studying her every features which has always been plastered in my brain ever since our first meet

Minutes passed as I stared for quite longer but all I found was the same woman who had spent months ruining every calculation I had ever made

The same woman who could make me want to lock the entire world away from her one moment and lose my patience with her the next.

The same woman who was quickly becoming the most dangerous variable in my life.

My hand lifted unconsciously. For a brief second, my fingers hovered near her face, not touching

The moonlight reflected faintly against the wedding band resting on my finger

But something unreadable crossed my face before disappearing just as quickly while my eyes landed on the red bruise over her exposed collars

My hand slowly moved her shirt, trying to get a clear view, but she shifted in her sleep sensing my touch just immediately

I carefully hovered over her, locking her under me, she has always been the prettiest when she slept

Then suddenly she shifted again. A small frown appeared between her brows.

The mattress dipped slightly beneath my weight as she moved under me, her body reacting instinctively to the unfamiliar presence surrounding her
