It was still early in the morning, and Ryan was already not having a good morning, due to Kyle's loud blabbering mouth, droning on and on about who knows what.
Ryan lost interest in what he was saying the moment he said hospital. No matter how loud he crunched his cornflakes, Kyle's voice still managed to ruin even how his cereal tasted.

"So why are you unwanted at work today?" Ryan smirked at his older brother, taking another bite out of his cornflakes. Kyle looked at him calmly, and gave him a smile that Ryan thought looked a constipated whale giving birth. He looked like an idiot.

"Mum and Dad are having a barbecue party today." Kyle paused, and looked at Ryan's questioning look. "Oh, didn't they tell you?" Kyle scrunched his eyebrows, giving Ryan an insincere apologetic look before he walked out into the backyard where his parents were.

All of a sudden, Ryan could feel his breakfast rising up his throat. He felt so left out with what was happening with his family. How could he not know about this barbecue party?
He placed his dishes in the sink and tromped out to the backyard for answers.

"Mum?" Ryan confronted his mother, who was busily laying out the olastic okates and cups on the snack table. She hummed in response. "How come you never told me about this.. barbecue party?"

"Huh?" She looked up at Ryan, looking calm. "Well, we thought you'd figure it out sooner or later." She shrugged and walked over to her husband, who was struggling to set up the grill.

Ryan nibbled on a barbecue stick -- he had accidentally burnt it while trying to cook it on the barbecue grill -- nervously looking for any familiar faces in the crowd. His parents were talking to some family, with a girl who was about his age. Ryan tried to peek at the girl's face, but she had her back turned, and his mother was already leading her over to the beverage table.

Sighing he walked over to the vacant bench, and decided he would stay there till the party ended. He spotted his brother, talking to some unfamiliar people, sharing a laugh.
Ryan envied Kyle, and he always wondered what drew everyone to him.
Was it his personality? Was it his goo looks? or was it how intelligent he was?
Whatever it was, Ryan couldn't help but think what would've happened if he had those traits.

His thoughts were cut short by the yanking of his mother. Ryan looked up at her giving her a confused look.

"Get up, Ry." She tugged on Ryan's arm once more. "I want you to meet some people."
Hesitantly, he got up from the bench and followed his mother towards the family they had been chatting to earlier on.

Ryan wasn't sure about going forward to meet them, but his mother pushed him with enough force towards the family. "I can't find our other son at the moment, but i'm sure he'll turn up." The way she said other son felt like a knife through the heart. It wasn't the words that stung, but the tone she used. It was as if to say the other son who is better. "This our youngest son, Ryan."

Ryan forced all the muscles on his face to bare a smile. He saw the girl roll her eyes at him, and Ryan released the fake smile. Then she stared to squint at him, making Ryan uncomfortable, so he looked away from her.

"Well, he's a handsome young one." The woman cooed at Ryan. But this time he managed to plaster a real smile to his face, and mumble out a thank you,

No matter how hard Ryan tried to avoid glancing over to the girl, his eyes couldn't . He watched her as she scooted closer to the man -- probably her father -- as they whispered to each other. Ryan heard his surname being said by the girl in shock. Why was that?

"Arden?" The minute Ryan heard Kyle's voice, the more he dreaded the barbecue party. His oarens would have endless of stories to tell about just how perfect Kyle was.
But, wait Arden? Was that her name?

Ryan took another look towards the girl. All her movements were frozen, and stiff. Did Kyle know this girl? Who was she? He watched as the girl seemed to slowly turn around to where Kyle was standing. "Kyle?" Her face softened.

"You two know each other?" Ryan's father asked, pointing to Kyle and Arden. They gave each other a small, secretive smile, before they both turned around to both families.

"Yeah i know Arden." Kyle bobbed his head up and down. Ryan had a feeling in his gut, that whatever they were about to say would not turn out so well, but Ryan leaned a little closer to hear what Kyle would say. "Mum, Dad, Mr. and Mrs Cho, Arden is--"

Ryan was caught on to Kyle's words, but a bang came from the barbecue, making the guests jump back in surprise. Everyone panicked as they watched the barbecue go up in flames.

"Somebody get a bucket of water!" A middle age man screamed. Everyone began to panic again. "Hurry!"

"Wendell, our barbecue grill is on fire!" Ryan's mother ran inside the house, and his father ran to the hose attached to the wall of the gate. More and more guest ran inside the house, as the fire began to crackle louder.

When the fire was beaten, Ryan's parents led everyone into the living room. Ryan kept an eye on Arden and Kyle, who were arguing quietly about something.

"I'm so sorry this barbecue party had to end up early with a bang!" Wendell joked with the guests, and an eruption of laughter filled the air. Ryan pretended to laugh at his father's lame joke, scanning through the guests for Kyle and Arden. They had disappeared.

Ryan squeezed himself through the adults and started looking for them. They were back in the backyard discussing at full volume. Ryan slowly walked up to Kyle and Arden, but none of them noticed him, since they were too engrossed in their conversation.

"I don't think now is the right time to tell them, Kyle." Arden looked up at him sternly.

"What do you mean?" Kyle furrowed his eyebrows, crossing his arms across his chest. "I want to introduce you as soon as possible."

"You haven't been answering any of my texts." Arden pursed her lips to make a straight line. "What a great boyfriend you are."

"I'm sorry, babe. I was busy." Kyle hugged Arden. She hesitated for a minute, but hugged him back. "I'll make it up to you."

Ryan rewinded on what Arden said. Boyfriend? So was this the girlfriend Kyle was always bragging about. Ryan did not believe that Kyle was busy at all. This was the perfect opportunity to destroy him. Ryan felt that Arden didn't deserve Kyle, and he would do whatever it took to get her away from a cheater.
