"Shaye? You doing okay in there?" Mrs. Blackburn called. Shayna swallowed and replied with a steady voice, "Yeah, Mom, I'm fine." She hurriedly wiped away her tears, dabbed her eyes with a nearby tissue, took a deep breath, and opened the door. Her mother immediately embraced her, her arms shaking.
"... Mom?" Shayna asked, rubbing her mother's back lightly. "What's up?"
"Oh, Shayna, I don't think I can handle this... Kerry, dead, and Daisy being closed off more than usual... you're the only one being calm about this," Mrs. Blackburn rambled.
"Mom... I'm totally not calm," Shayna soothed. "But we'll make it through this."
"Can... can you and Daisy go to the floral shop? Pick out some nice flowers for Kerry's grave?" Mrs. Blackburn pleaded, holding her daughter's hands together with her own.
Shayna shoved the memories of Daisy's episode just a few minutes ago into the back of her head and forced a smile on her face as she replied, "Sure, Mom, we'd love to! I guess Daisy can drive us... She's really excited to have a car."
A thin smile appeared on Mrs. Blackburn's lips. "Of course she is. Be back by four, okay?"
"Sure. By four."
