Wyatt POV

I don't know how long we had been on that boat. My mother and father always told us to stay close to them. My dad made sure to always tell me "Check your temper son." And "Always take care of your sister." I never understood why I had to check my temper. But I always stayed calm for my sister's sake. We were standing close to the ramp, in line to get off the boat we have been living on for so long. It was just the four of us; Father, Mother, Emilina, she is 10 years old and me. My name is Wyatt, I'm 13 years old; but I could pass for older. We left our home, friends and family to start a new life in the new country. Father says it will be an adventure we will never forget.

Father told us some people he knew were picking us up and we would stay with them for a few days. He and mother had business to take care of so Emilian & I would be at the house with them. We are to not go outside and no running in the house. Father said to be a perfect Lady and Gentleman. Whatever that meant, all I know is that I wanted to run and play. There was no one to play with on the boat except my little sister and she couldn't play like me. I tap my father on the arm I wanted to find out if there were other kids at this house. As he looks at me his eyes are almost all black instead of steal blue just like mine. He saw me step back in shock; I had never seen his eyes like that before. He blinked his eyes and they were normal again.

"You need something Wyatt?" His voice sounded far away. I shook my head slowly, looking down. I heard a faint growl and felt my mother pull me behind her. Emilina was beside me, she looked scared for some reason.

I heard my mother and father talking but it was more like a whisper. "David, you can't do that to him. He does not know." my mother was staring at my father with fear and concern in her eyes.

I don't know what they were talking about. I was looking at my sister and thinking about what father told me before we left on the ship. "Always take care of your sister." I stepped from behind mother and asked my father my question.

"Will there be other kids for us to play with when we get to your friend's house?" My voice was a little shaky but you could hear it clear.

Something mother always told me was to speak clearly so you are not misunderstood. Father looked at me a little confused and laughed. I have not heard him laugh in so long.

Mother just smiled a sad smile at me and said "Sorry there are no other children there."

I was a little saddened by mother's words. I really hoped there would be others, more for Emilina then myself. There where so many new things to see. There were just so many new wonders in this new land. Mother had each of us by the hand, telling us to stay close. Father was right behind us, watching each person closely as we passed.

"Mary! David!" We heard someone calling.

Mother stopped quickly, looking around for the owner of the voice that called her. A woman walked up to us with a huge smile on her face. Mother was also smiling, just not as big. The lady and father nodded to each other. She quickly looked at Emilina and me with a strange look, almost like she didn't know we were coming.

"Follow me, I have a buggy waiting." Then she turned and walked away.

Emilina tugged on our mothers arm and asked in a whisper "Mommy, who is she?"

"A friend, stay close to your father and me." Is all she said as we followed the woman she called a friend.

Father and a guy that was with the woman went back to the ship to collect our belongings. Mother and the lady sat in the buggy talking about our trip as we waited for father to return. Emilina and I were sitting in the back so they could talk. I was trying to answer her questions about the new world, a lot she never saw before.
