[A/N ok I know some people really dislike these for some reason I personally do not understand as these are not satirical in any way nor do they downplay the seriousness of tragedies, but whatever. To each their own. If you don't like it, don't read it. Yes this is a songfic. And yes. It is a tribute for 9/11, a very serious and important day in American history. There is another authors note at the end.]
She walks to school with her arms crossed.
It's just another day.
Amelia sighed as she stepped out of her dorm, locking the door behind her. Since it was Alfred's turn to do all the work, she had decided to focus on learning about her hobbies. And so here she was, a college student in New York, sadly a bit distanced from the city where she lived.
It was a beautiful September day, and she walked confidently to her first class. It was an early one, but since it was kinda long, she was fine with it. It allowed her to leave earlier. This meant that occasionally she would go help out Alfred with their duties as nations. However, it was his year to do the job, so she was gonna enjoy her much-needed break.
At 10:00 she hears this screaming
And finally she sees them
It's scary how things change
She was sitting in class when one of her classmates recieved a phone call. Strictly following protocol, they silenced their phone-as it should be. When he got a third call, the teacher allowed him to be excused. Just then, another phone rang. And another.
And I saw the story on the news
I saw the footage from the roof
I sat down and cried
The professor was aghast-when her phone rang. That was when the first student, a cute guy named James, burst back into the classroom, his eyes wide as tears streaked down his cheeks. He and a few others clamored around the professor, who backed them away, before turning to the seldom-used television set in the classroom. She turned on the news and everyone gasped in shock. Amelia's eyes went wide and she pulled out her phone quickly, along with several other classmates. She had a few missed calls and some texts from friends.
Nothing from Alfred.
Didn't she call you?
Didn't she need you bad enough
Was there some reason I'm not aware of
Time and time again she called Alfred. There had been a World Meeting earlier today-not in the Twin Towers, but near New York City. It was supposed to have ended already so everyone could enjoy a break.
She called Arthur.
Nothing.
She called Mattie.
Nothing.
She called Bella.
And still no reply as she frantically went through her phone, finding everyone she could and trying to get someone to pick up.
Did you not write it down
Just one more thing to do?
Where were you?
"Oh my god Alfred pick up the phone!" she whispered to herself as another attempt to call him failed. She was sat on the floor, tears flowing freely down her face as she stared in horror at the news screen, along with her class (who sat in shock), wincing as she felt small bursts of pain rocket through her body every now and then.
But she's a strong country. All that could really hurt her was a shot to the heart, a blow to the head. There wasn't too much pain she couldn't withstand. She just hoped the others were ok...
