A few weeks later, we were back in California as usual. I never ended up going to dinner with Ava and we haven't spoke since my trip to Omaha. I also haven't got any messages or texts from that person, so I'd say things are going pretty well.
I think everybody's just forgotten about the whole Ava dilemma- or they're too nervous to bring it up around me. I've made it clear that I'm done talking about this and worrying about it. Done.
Today's Jack's birthday, and he's not awake yet. Jack J and I are making French toast and pancakes, listening to What Do You Mean by Justin. I watched as Jack J danced around the kitchen with me. He has better dance moves.
"Should we put vanilla in the French toast?" I asked.
"Mmhm." He nodded. "It's way better that way."
Surprisingly Jack J is really good at cooking. He's better than I am and that's saying something since my mom, dad, grandpa, and grandma are all basically chefs.
"You're good at cooking, you know?" I smiled.
"Yeah. If I'm making breakfast. I'm not good at anything else!" He laughed.
"You made that vegetable pasta salad the other day. It tasted like it was from a restaurant." I defended.
He smiled a little bit. "Alright. Secretly, I am kind of good."
"You are." I smiled back.
I was just about to put a piece of French toast on the pan when I was lifted from my feet and drowned in kisses.
"Good morning." He said into my ear.
I jumped up onto my feet. "HAPPY FREAKIN BIRTHDAY." I yelled into his face. He laughed, and then I gave him another hug. Some part of me still feels uncomfortable kissing him in front of Jack J.
"Thank you." He smiled, rubbing his eyes.
"Happy Birthday man!!" Jack J playfully punched him.
"Thank you!!" Jack said. I watched as they basically beat each other up.
"Hey, hey!" I interrupted. "We've got French toast here. Don't ruin it."
"Heeeelll yes." Jack put his hands into a praying position and took in the scent of the kitchen.
We've got strawberries, raspberries, whipped cream, blueberry syrup, powdered sugar, and a few other of Jack's favorite toppings. He plopped a strawberry into his mouth and formed a huge smile.
"You guys are the best."
Jack J and I smiled at each other. This was only the beginning of the day. They've got a show, and I've got surprises.
