REMEMBER

I know I'm going to die one day;
I know that one day
All I will be is dust;
But please;
Just please, one wish:
Don't forget that I ever existed,
Do not store my name in the
File cabinet of your thoughts;
Remember me:
That I was someone
With thoughts of my own
With a life;
Contemplate my deepest thoughts at 2am,
And find the answers to your
Deepest inquiries
Between the lines of my
Greatest poems;
Remember my wishes:
How I wanted my poetry in my
Great grandchildren's bookshelves,
And how I yearned for a star in my name;
How in my world, it was a new year
Every time there was a rainbow,
And on every deck of cards,
I was the queen of hearts;
Remember my words:
For what they taught you,
The way I phrased them,
How they were the story of my life;
So, I beg you:
Remember me
Because one day, all I will be is
Dust
AND
YOU
WILL
BE
THE
ONLY
ONE
WHO
REMEMBERS
