Today was crazy, for me.
A few girls started talking to me and I caught guys staring at me from a distance. But I didn't want to bother myself with that. I didn't saw Taehyung after school though, so I went home straight after that.
Right now, i'm in the comfort of silence, at home. I turn my head towards the wall clock of my kitchen.
8.30 p.m
As usual, I'm home alone again. I stir the ramyun in the pot and turn the fire off, pouring the noodles into a bowl. I carry it carefully over to my dining table and take a seat where I always do, opposite where Yerin unnie sits. Maybe if she was still alive, I wouldn't be eating pathetically like this. Maybe.
*Ding Dong*
Oh? A guest? I stand up and shuffle my feet to the front door. I twist the door knob and pull the door open.
"Annyeong!" Taehyung appears, wearing a white pullover and torn jeans.
"Taehyung what is-"
"Come on, we have a date. Have you eaten?" he asks while peaking into my house.
"I was about to eat..."
"Is that ramyun?" he gasp in disbelief. "You are not going to eat ramyun for dinner. "he says in an annoyed tone.
I bit my lower lips and puff my cheeks out.
"Ah come on, I'm hungry. You don't have to finish your food."
"But-"
"Kaja!" he grabs my hand and pulls me out of the house. I can't believe this guy. I'm not even wearing proper clothes! He interlocks his fingers with mine and walks closely beside me with our shoulders touching. I have no idea where he was taking me. We make a few turns and cross the road. There was a spicy rice cake restaurant still open and brightly lit with led lights wrapped around the sign. Taehyung breaks into a big smile and directs me into the restaurant.
"Welcome!" an old lady greets us. She turns around and eyes the both of us, but smiles at Taehyung.
"Omo! Handsome guy!" She says while walking to us. Taehyung laughs and pulls me closer to his side.
"Ahjumma, this is my girlfriend! Pretty right?" he says and I can't help but blush.
She slaps Taehyung playfully on the arm, "Ya! Are you boasting now?" she smiles and looks at me. She tilts her head and squints her eyes at me, looking intrigued as if I was some kind of alien. "Doesn't she look like that girl-"
"Baegopa!" Taehyung whines. Wait what..? Who do I look like?
The lady rolls her eyes and directs us to an empty table where sat down opposite each other.
Out of habit, I take the utensils from the holder and wrap it in a tissue, placing it in front of Taehyung. I used to do this for Yerin Unnie when we went out to eat. It's the little things that always help me remember her.
I expected Taehyung to ignore my gesture, but instead his lips are apart, eyes staring into my hands as if I did something wrong.
"Taehyung, is something wrong?" I ask, waving my hands in front of his eyes.
He snaps back into reality and manages a crooked smile, "It's nothing." He turns his head and faces the window. His jaw line from the side is an unusually pleasant view.
The lady comes back with a tray of side dishes along side a big plate of spicy rice cake and she arranges it gently in front of us. The whole dinner was awfully quiet. But its not for me to complain. It's been ages since I ate dinner with an actual human being. I like it.
After dinner, he brings me to a nearby park where sat by the swing. He was too engrossed swinging while humming to a Zion.T song. I kick the sand beneath my feet and let the wind travel between the strands of my thick hair.
"This is nice," I sigh.
Taehyung digs his foot into the sand to stop himself from swinging. "What is?"
"Relaxing like this." I look up and admire the constellation of stars that bind with one another, forming a magical ray of art. "It's been so long since I even sat on a swing. The last time I did, unnie was always dragging me here to make sure I get enough fresh air." I point to my chest "Its not very good in there."
Taehyung furrows his eyebrow, "What happened to you?"
"Something." I reply in a low voice. I don't think were at that level of relationship, or friendship, to talk about my personal history.
Taehyung looks sympathetic at first, but he giggles and ruffles my hair afterwards. "Aigo, I didn't know you could talk so much."
I nod my head at that remark, "Well, better make it worth it since we'll break up anyways."
And with that, his smile turns into a frown. So much for a surprise reality check. I glance at my watch and notice that time is flying past too fast. I push myself to my feet and shift my eyes to meet his."It's getting late. We have school tomorrow." I say before pivoting on one foot, turning around and walking away. From behind, I hear his footsteps trailing me.
"Yah Shin Yujin."
Before I could even respond, Taehyung pulls me by the arm, spins me around before reeling me into a hug. He puts one hand behind my head, securing its place on his chest.
"Taehyung what are-"
"Who are you?" he whispers into my ears. "How did a girl like you make my heart beat so fast?"
