Chapter 18

"Kristi..I don't know," I say to the speaker section of my phone as I walk home after school.

"Evelynn..wow. It's weird calling you that, now." Kristi has been acting weird since I told her about the information I found out yesterday.

"Yeah, I know." I say, my sorrows showing. "Are you okay? You seem..off."

"What? That's crazy..I'm fine. I'm better than fine. I'm awesome, spectacular, suburb, even-"
"Kristi! What is going on?" I say was I reach the front door. "You only babble when you're hiding something. What is it?"

"I'll tell you at the game tonight. I promise." She swears. I get the key out of my pocket and put it in the lock.

"Okay, I'll talk to you later. I have to babysit Daisy Mae before our game tonight."

"Oh, okay. Bye." She ends the call before I can say anything.

"Bye." I say to the dead line. I unlock the door and walk through. Daisy Mae runs up and grabs me.

"Hi! How was school?" I ask her as she leads me to the cream colored couch. We sit on it and then she continues.

"It was good. I think Johnny likes me. He gave me a daisy and he said 'A daisy for my Daisy'!" Dang, that kid's got skills!

"How old is Johnny?" She starts to giggle and then she hugs me.

"Seven." She giggles more and then leads me up to her room.

"Wow an older boy, huh?" We both start to laugh when Marie comes into DM's room.

"Shyanne, please watch Daisy Mae. I'll be back soon and we'll all go to watch the big game, okay? Go Vikings!" I give her a weak smile and nod. Marie leaves and I turn my attention back to Daisy.

"Do you like, like a boy?" Daisy asks me. I nod my head very slowly. She squeals in delight then gasps. "Is it Natey!?"

I smile widely at her. "Yes."

"I knew you liked me!" I turn around and see Nathan staring at me from the doorway.

"Uh..but.." I kook back at Daisy Mae who's grinning as much as she possibly can.

"Oops.." She says all innocently, while grinning like a madman.

I shake my head and then look at Nate. He gestures for me to follow him and I get up and walk with him to my room. Why are we in my room?

When we enter my room, Nate pushes me against the wall and scoops my arms up with one of his hands so my arms are above my head. Nathan's face is mere inches from mine. Our breaths colliding.

"So..you like me, huh?" Nathan says with a smirk on his face.

"Maybe.." I say, my heart pounding in my chest.

"I know you do, Evelynn. The feeling is mutual, you know." He leans forwards an inch. Just one more to go..

"Just kiss me already." I say as I lean forwards and our lips crash together.
