"Nathan..maybe we shouldn't do this." I say, uncertainly.

He keeps his eyes on the road and doesn't say anything to me. His hands clench the steering wheel so hard that they start to turn white instead of their usual tan color.

"Evelynn," Nathan growls my name. "Why didn't you say that before we did this? We're already in Tenessee. We're out of Oregon! We only have a fee hours til we're there." He yells at me. He's been like this the whole ride. Irratable, rude, and grumpy.

"I..I don't.." I just turn and look out the window. A beautiful lake surrounded by trees and bushes is in my view.

"Look at me." Nathan says, his voice still sharp but softer than earlier. I continue looking out the window as we pass by the lake. I shouldn't have done this. Maybe this was a mistake.

"Lynn..I..I didn't mean it like that." A tear falls down my face. Maybe we were a mistake, too.

I turn and look at Nathan. I watch his eyes turn to a look of pure horror. I hear him scream then everything turns black.

I awake to someone saying my name.

"Shyanne? Shyanne can you hear me?" My eyes flutter open. I'm being pushed on a stretcher down a long hallway. The lights above me are too bright and give me an instant headache.

"Shyanne. My name i-" I feel myself drifting away again.

"What's going on? I-" Everything starts to go black and I feel dizzy even though I'm lying down.

"We need a CT scan, now!" Someone shouts before I loose consciousness.

Nathan's POV

"Where is she?" I ask the doctor. "Where is she!?"

"I told you. I cannot disclose that information." He continues looking at my chart. He's an older doctor, hair just beginning to gray. It's obvious he's been doing this for a while.

"Can you please tell me where she is? We got into a fight and I just.." I beg him.

The man sighs and sits down. "Would you rather get better or know where she is?"

"Where is she?" I answer him. He smiles and nods slowly.

"You really love her, don't ya?

"With all my heart." I reply instantly.

The doctor nods. "I see." He puts my chart on my bed and walks over to me. "When I was your age I fell in love with the most beautiful woman. She was kind, smart, funny.. she was everything I've ever wanted. I loved her more than anything." The doctor looks away from me. "One day, we got into a really bad fight. It was my fault of course, and she was so mad she stormed out. I told her if she didn't sit down and talk this out with me then she mines well not come back. She drove off and I felt terrible. I bought her flowers and chocolate so that when she did come home, that she'd know how sorry I was. And how much I loved her." When he looks at me his eyes are evidently misty. "That night I got a phone call that she was in a terrible car accident..She died that day." I don't have anything to say. I'm in shock that he would share this with me. "I always wondered what my life would've been like if.. well. We'll never know. But you have a chance that I didn't get. Make sure to never leave in the middle of an argument. I don't want you to have the same regrets that I do. Now, I may not be able to tell you where she is, but if I accidentally leave my clipboard here while I use the restroom then it wasn't my fault." He smiles at me then leaves.

As soon as he exits the room I grab the clipboard and shuffle through the papers until I see her name. I grab the paper and jump out of bed. I rush to the nearest elevator then push the 8th button to the ICU. I reach the office.

"Hello. How may I help you?" Says a nurse looking at her computer blankly.

"I'd like to see Evelynn
Smith."

"I'm sorry, but there is no Evelynn Smith here." She says annoyed.

"I'm sorry, Shyanne. Shyanne Smith."

"Room 218." She buzzes me past without even asking if I'm family. And I rush to her room. 215..216..217..Ah! Finally, 218. I open the door and see a woman sitting next to a sleeping Evelynn.

"Who are you?" I ask her, cautiously.

"My name is Debbie."
