A few days after school started, which was the day after the ceremony, L told me he was going to try to get closer to Light. I didn't know what it entailed, but I trusted he would be fine.

As for how school was actually going, I wasn't sure. He was probably bored in all his classes. It was expected. I worried others were treating him differently, though. When I told Watari of this, he told me to calm down and that L was an adult and could handle himself better than most. Maybe Watari was right. L just acted like such a child sometimes. He could be innocent and naïve. I didn't want anything bad to happen to him.

Perhaps I should have been sending those thoughts to another person.

It was late in the afternoon. Matsuda had left to get dinner for later. Aizawa, Ukita, and Mogi were doing work in my suite since it was so cluttered in L's. Yagami, Watari, and I were working in L's room. Everything was just as it normally was. That was until I saw Yagami rubbing his chest. I asked, "What's wrong?"

"Oh, it's nothing. My chest is really hurting. I feel pretty tired, too. I must just be getting sick," Yagami brushed off. I gave him a quick once over. He looked to have cold sweats. I didn't want to ignore it so easily.

"Go take an aspirin. It's better to be safe than sorry. There should be some in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom," I instructed.

"Alright," he surrendered with a sigh and stood up. He only took a few steps. I heard a pause before he fell in the middle of the floor.

"Chief Yagami!" I shouted and jumped out of my chair, kneeling next to him. I ordered Watari as I took out my phone, "Call his wife. I'll call an ambulance. I'll inform Ryuzaki afterwards."

I was waiting on hold. His chest was rising and falling, so I knew he hadn't went into respiratory arrest. I began searching for a pulse when a woman's voice came through, "What is your emergency?"

"I am Hikari Kita, and I need an ambulance. A man is having a heart attack and has fallen unconscious. He's still breathing," I told her. I found the pulse and cursed. There was no heartbeat. I moved the phone between my cheek and shoulder. "I'm going to try to restart his heart now. Please, hurry." After telling her the address, I hung up.

I pressed down on his breast bone over the heart twice. Nothing. I repeated the motion. Still nothing. Tears stung the corner of my eyes. The third time, his pulse finally came back. I let out a breath of relief. "Watari, please put him in the recovery position. I'm going to get the aspirin and call Ryuzaki."

I left Yagami in Watari's care and made my way to the bathroom, dialing L's number. "Yes?" L said.

"Ryuzaki, it's Hikari. I have bad news. Chief Yagami just had a heart attack. He's breathing, and his heart is going, but he's unconscious. An ambulance will be here in a few minutes. You're going to have to meet us in the hospital closest to the hotel. I'll call you with the room number when we get there," I told him. With the medicine in hand, I ran back to Yagami. He wasn't awake, but I kept the bottle close in case he did.

"Light, it's your-" he began to say when Light must have cut him off. "We're leaving right now. Traffic will be bad, but we'll get there as soon as we can. Goodbye." He hung up.

It took five minutes for the ambulance to arrive. Watari decided I should be the one to ride with Yagami to the hospital so he could inform the others of our situation. He woke inside the vehicle. Sachiko arrived around ten minutes after we did. I told her I was one of his colleagues, which she believed. Sayu was thankfully forced to stay home. I couldn't let her give away my relations to L.

We were allowed to see Yagami after an hour of waiting. Considering L and Light were so far away and trying to fight against rush hour, I wasn't surprised that they had arrived around two hours after I called. It was already dark out. Sachiko had to get home to make dinner for Sayu not too long after they came. "Okay, see you tomorrow. Have them call home if you need anything. Light, you take care of him, okay?" she made sure as she began walking out.
