THE YEARS WENT BY LIKE a black cat running across your path. Nissa, Asha, and I became adult witches after many years of practice and preparing spells, hexes, cantations, potions, and anything else you can think of. We've made enemies and allies through the years, but we've always stuck together. Centuries had passed since the last time we ever saw the castle. We didn't dare go back to England. We knew that by now it was okay to go back since no one would ever try anything towards us, but we were just cautious.
We traveled through Europe, seeking other witches to help us every now and then. By the time America had been discovered and Thanksgiving was a thing, we had already been around the world twice. When we finally decided to settle down in America, Nissa had already found herself an admirer. He was Italian and very handsome. They fell in love around the fifteen hundreds (about a hundred years after we had been away from the castle). His name was Dane Ferraro. He was seventeen when he met Nissa.
I remember how Nissa would push him away and make him embarrass himself in front of so many people. She didn't care that much about love at that time. It wasn't until Dane actually kissed her on the lips that she started to fall for him. Eight years flew by and everyone thought that it was love that kept them together. And it was, until Dane was suddenly on his death bed.
I remember how she would wait by his bed everyday, when she would beg me to make hundreds of healing potions and spells a day. She really did love Dane a lot. But one day, when we were all going to visit Dane (he had became a close friend of Asha and me), we had found a young man, around his age, leaning over him, with his lips on his neck.
At first, we didn't know what to think until the guy had pulled away and we saw the blood and bite mark. It was a vampire. Nissa was so furious with the vamp for taking her love, she released Hell on Earth to the guy.
But that wasn't the only messed up thing about the situation.
Once Dane was declared dead, Nissa mourned for him. She never got to have the wedding they were planning or the kids they wanted to have. She didn't even get to tell him that she was a witch. All of that was taken away from her by a vampire.
The vampire that wouldn't leave her alone.
In time, we learned that he was actually following us from place to place. Stalking us like we were his prey, only when he did catch us, he didn't bother killing us. No, he confessed his love to Nissa. And of course Nissa didn't confess it back. The man had killed her only love and she wasn't about to just move on. It had only been twenty years.
The vamp, who turned out to be named Kai Tandem from a wee town in Wales, had figured out why we didn't age. He pretty much thought we were either folks of the Fey, vampires, or witches. Nissa had proven the day he killed her love that we were all witches.
Kai was always somewhere around Nissa. He wouldn't let her go. No matter how much she fought him or threatened him, he would always come back and try to woe her. The guy was in love with her. He couldn't help it. And with Nissa's stubborn side, he would always have to keep trying.
But Nissa has never even tried to give the guy a chance to explain why he killed her love, and I don't think that the witch ever will.
Asha and I still never got over our first loves. Asha did let men and boys court her, but she could never get the prince off of her mind...
And I couldn't blame her.
I missed Lucas. So very, very much. There are days that I get mad and scream at the walls and end up crying my eyes out. Then there are the days when I'm sad and stay quiet and never speak to anyone. I'll sit in my room and just look out the window, watching the world move on with life as I'm stuck there, watching it go. Lucas took my heart, and now, I couldn't get it back ever again.
