SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME THAT what screws us up most in life is the picture in our heads of what supposed to be. Well, in that moment that the werewolf was leaning over me and said the word "mate" while looking directly at me, those words pretty much summed up my life.

I couldn't move at all when I heard that word. That wasn't a word witches normally hear. I've only ever witnessed three different men ever say the word "mate" towards a girl. Twice when I was the 'pack doctor' and once when I was on my own for a while. I remember how the men would scoop up their mates and kiss them in a flash. They would do anything for them, even if they just met.

But what I didn't understand was the fact that I wasn't a werewolf or a human and he still said it. Witches only marry witches and give offspring to witches. It doesn't matter whether a witch is good or bad, it's only that witches are supposed to be with others of their own kind.

Not with any other.

Dark eyes; dark hair. He was staring in my eyes with determination and some kind of admiration. His hands never left my face as he kneeled down in front of me in all his glory. I wasn't really noticing his body since I was too focused on him being near me and touching me. I didn't really like people touching me.

He moved forward to take the position that he was in before, but I flinched back and away from his touch a few feet. At first, he looked broken for a moment, but then he started to crawl towards me to try and touch me again.

I just backed away as fast as I could.

"Get the fuck away from her!"

A red ball of flames pushed the alpha wolf out of the way. Shocked, I stopped in my movements and froze as I watched Asha and Nissa run to me to pick me up. The alpha was on his feet in no time and heading towards us, mostly in my direction.

"Stay the fuck away from her, Mutt!" Asha screamed.

The werewolf growls and bares his growing canines at her. His hands turn to claws and his eyes go black, making me want to slap Asha and Nissa upside the head at their words and actions. The wolf was stalking towards us as Asha and Nissa hid me behind their backs. The water from the rain had drenched us all and I knew for a fact that I wasn't going to let them fight in the rain.

"Stop," my voice was demanding and firm, as the three looked at me. I gave Asha and Nissa a look and shivered. "It's getting cold. And fighting will get us nowhere. Let's just see if Sara and Justin will let us stay the night," I whispered against the harsh raindrops.

Immediately, the alpha wolf loses his dangerous demeanor and states, "You may stay in our pack." the girls glare at him with hatred as I just give him a nod and smile, trying to say thank you without showing my chattering teeth.

The wolves that were in the trees were now down and they began to surround us, but more in a protective way than in an attacking stance. The wolf gave me a smile back and started to walk towards me when the two girls standing between us blocked his path. He gave a growl then finally walked around the two and beckoned us to follow.

We followed him towards the pack house. I was shivering from the cold and rain as we entered through the door. As soon as I was in the house, I was engulfed by a hug. Sara was holding onto me so tight that I couldn't move. She was whispering words (of I don't know what) in the crook of my neck when there was a growl.
