Chapter Seven

When I get up in the morning I have a blanket over me. I know for sure that I didn’t go to bed with a blanket on me. Either Taylor or Kyle put it on me, but my guess would be Taylor.

I feel awful for pulling away from him like that but he scared me. I had to pull away, if I didn’t I don’t know what would have happened. I know that I need to get over this but now…I cant. I will eventually. I have to try to work on this. I have to if I don’t I wont be able to have any type of relationship with Taylor.

I get out of bed and look to the air mattress where Taylor is asleep. He didn’t leave. I pulled away and he didn’t leave. I smile at the thought. I bend down and kiss his cheek. He stirs but doesn’t wake up. I make my downstairs and find Kyle in the kitchen.

“Morning Hol.”

“Morning.” I walk straight over to him and hug him.

“What’s this for?”

“Everything.” I mumble into his shoulder. He holds me as I continue to hug him. “I pulled away from Taylor last night and curled up in bed without saying anything to him.”

He breaks the hug. “What happened?”

“He caught my hand and pulled me really close.”

He sighs. “Holly…”

“I know! Okay, I know!” he looks at me. “I cant just get over what happened so easily Kyle! I know that you want me to and that everyone wants me to but I cant!”

“Holly.”

“Just stop, okay? Just stop.” I run upstairs and change into my bikini and throw on a pair of short jean shorts and a tank top. I grab my cell. I go back downstairs and walk out of the house. I head down the beach and look for something to do.

Halfway down the beach my phone beeps.



Hol, don’t be mad. Come home

I reply.

I just want to be alone.



I wait for a reply but don’t get one so I put my phone back in my pocket and keep walking.

After awhile I find a pathway that leads to some shops. I find a diner, a book store, and a beach shop. I head towards the book store. Once inside I look around. Its small, but has bookshelves lining each wall from the ceiling to the floor. There are couches, chairs, tables and quite a few people. I find a book and sit down in a chair. I read for awhile and then put the book down. When I look up I see that its already almost dark. I set the book down on a table and leave the shop. I walk up to the house and to the door. I go inside and instead of to my room I head out to the pool. I take my tank top and shorts off and sit my phone on a chair. I jump into the deep end and start swimming. I swim until I start to get cold. I get out wrap a towel around myself and grab my clothes and phone.

“Holly, I’m sorry.” Kyle says.

“Keep talking.”

“I shouldn’t have said what I did and it wont happen again.”

I hug him. “Thanks.” I break the hug. “What happened with Taylor?”

“He went home.”

“What did you tell him?”

“That talking to you wouldn’t do anything right now, you just wanted to be alone.”

“I didn’t take off because of him, I took off because I was…well you know.”

“He went home a half hour after you left.”

“Did he say anything?”

“No.”

“I’m um, I’m going to go call him.”

“Holly its late.”

“I don’t care, I don’t want him to think that it is his fault I left.”

“Holly…”

“I don’t give a shit Kyle, he probably thinks I left because of him!”

“Holly just calm down okay? Go take a shower and get some sleep and you can call him tomorrow.”

“If calls or anything promise you’ll tell me?”

“I promise.” I give him a small smile and head upstairs. I take a shower and change into some pajamas. After that I get in bed with the TV on and text Taylor.

I get into a comfortable position and try to sleep. After a half hour I don’t get a reply so I close my eyes and drift off to sleep.

I feel something sink on my bed and I wake up. I look to see what it is and I scream.

“Holly, Holly! Holly wake up!” someone shakes me. I open my eyes and Kyle is sitting on the edge of my bed.

“Are you okay?” he asks and I shake my head.

“I…I hhad the dreeam again.” I stutter. He pulls me into a hug and I bury my head into the crook of his neck.

“Honey, is she alright?” Kim asks.

“I don’t know.” I feel the bed sink next to me and Kim slides her arms around me, holding me.

“Shh, its okay sweetie. You’re here with us and safe.” I start crying and slowly fall asleep in their arms.

“Is she really doing okay, like she said she was?” Kim asks.

“I talked to my parents and they said that she has been doing extremely well. But some things just set something off and she gets upset. My guess is that she got upset about Taylor not wanting him to think that she left this morning because of him.”

“What happened?”

“Last night he did something, very small. But it was something that you know who did and she got upset and scared and pushed Taylor away.”

“Oh.”

“She wanted to call him earlier tonight but I told her not to because it was late.”

“Its three in the morning now.”

“It was around midnight and she had been upset because I brought him up, not meaning to but I did and she took off.”

“Kyle honey, she was in love with him and she cant let that go. Its been almost seven months but I can see that she is still upset. After everything that she has went through dating Taylor is a huge step for her, its not going to be easy even if he is in love with her.”

“There is no way in hell that he is in love with her.”

“Kyle, they used to be close friends and you saw how they were together and so did I. All of the years that she didn’t come here, he was hurt because he missed her. Your parents gave him pictures and told him about her. He is in love with your little sister whether you like it or not.”

“The last time that some guy was ‘in love’ with my little sister….” I shift in their arms.

“Just leave it alone Kyle. Let her make her own decisions. Taylor is a good guy and we both know that they are perfect for each other.”

He sighs. “Fine, but if he hurts her I’m going to kick his ass right then and there.”
