Nash POV

New York is a beautiful city, it's exactly the kind of city that I want to live in, instead of the rural town in North Carolina that I grew up in. I would love to attend college here but it's just too expensive, I can dream though. I worked so hard to come here, I worked doubles in the diner on the weekends and after school on the weekdays. This trip is my graduation present to myself, my parents are too poor to afford anything and I can't blame them because they work hard too, there's just too many mouths to feed. My father works in a car factory and my mother works in the local library, they had 4 kids and that was too much considering their income and so they're stretched very thinly.

My friend's parents were able to pay for their plane tickets and hotel rooms, I'm lucky enough that my close friend Tez is sharing his room with me and so I have a little spending money. Most of my money went towards buying the plane ticket and food.

"Yo, we're going to The Empire State Building today bro." Tez tells me and I smile because I've always wanted to see the world from so high up.

"Sounds good," I tell him. We're midway through the week and I've been budgeting my money very carefully, I didn't want to run out too soon and starve or have to bum money off of my friends. I eat strictly off the dollar menu whenever we hit up a fast food place, it's usually McDonald's.

We finish getting ready and then head out to get breakfast from McDonald's. We get to the Empire State Building before lunch and take the elevators to the observation floor. The wind whips around us and I look around the view, it's gorgeous. I take out my crappy phone and take a picture, it's not going to look like my friend's high quality iPhone pictures but it'll do. I'm lucky I even have a phone, it's actually my older brother Will's old phone, he let me have and even pays the bill for me. My parents definitely can't afford phones and are too proud to get the Obama phones.

We spend a lot of time taking pictures and posting them to social media before our stomachs growl and we head down to grab some food. I'm paying attention to Tez and not looking where I'm going when I bump into someone.

"Oh, I'm so sorry." I rush out and my eyes meet golden brown eyes that trail down my body before they meet mine again.

"What's your name?" He asks and I feel intimidated right away, he's wearing an expensive looking business suit and seems so far above me.

"I... Uhm..." I stutter, he cocks his eyebrow at me and I can feel my cheeks heat up in embarrassment. "N-Nash."

"You have a beautiful shade of pink when you blush," he murmurs and makes me flush even more. He takes out his phone and commands me to give him my number. I trip over those words too, I am so nervous. He makes me nervous.

"I'm late for a meeting, Nash. But I will be calling you," he tells me quietly. He reaches into his pocket and hands me a card before walking away, leaving me staring at him like a lovesick fool.

I stare at the card until Tez calls my name and snaps his finger in front of my face. I slide the card into my pockets and wonder if he's really going to call me.

I hope he does.
