Chapter Fifteen – The ‘Private’ Tutor
As the days passed, Nicolette spent more and more time isolated in her room. She didn’t know what to do; she had never felt so lost. Not only was Skyler giving her the silent treatment, but half the people around the academy were avoiding her like she had some sort of disease. She couldn’t get any peace around either because the other half of people were throwing food, drinks and trash at her. Each day was a pain because someone might have stolen her binders, textbooks or pens from her bag and hid it somewhere around the academy.
The only two people who talked to her on occasions were Matthew and Lillian. Even Devon seemed quiet around her, which was abnormal in her opinion. She was too busy feeling miserable to even think about getting revenge, but someone else did. In the middle of the week, about two weeks after the start of her miserable days, Devon had gotten exactly what he had deserved.
Just like any other school day, Nicolette was trying to escape the classrooms before anyone else. The only thing that made her stop was the pictures posted on the walls outside her English classroom. She almost feared the worst, when she had remembered about what Lillian had told her a few days ago…
“If you see papers around the walls anytime soon, know that it isn’t directed to you, it’s for my brother. I have been waiting to do this for a long time actually.” She laughed.
Nicolette had barely glanced at the paper before she laughed for the first time in three weeks. It had a couple of photos of Devon and some of his guy friends, painting their fingernails pink, putting makeup and dressing themselves up with girl clothes on their own will!
As the crowd started to thicken in the hallway, more people started to take notice and soon the whole academy was talking about it. The only few people who weren’t so happy about it was Devon Shade and his friends
“Damn it Lillian! You made me look like a fool with those pictures you put up and now my friends are also pissed at me as well! I can’t believe you lied to me when you agreed to delete all the pictures after I do all your slave work!!!” yelled Devon angrily while holding the paper out in front of Lillian’s face.
She meagerly shrugged, “Yeah, that’s why you never trust siblings, even the most innocent ones.” She replied. “But, you deserved it.”
“Are you serious?! Is this about what happened to Nicolette?!”
Lillian shrugged again, but then the edge of her lips lifted slightly. He called Nicolette by her name for once… she thought before looking Devon straight in the eyes. “Of course it is.”
“But that wasn’t—”
“I don’t care. I told you that there were some serious consequences for you if I ever get proof that you had her diary.”
“You don’t—”
“Stop it! Can you really deny about that?” she demanded.
Devon didn’t reply, but ended up sneering. “Whatever Lillian, call this our last meeting as brother and sister, because right now, I have no sister.”
He left Lillian speechless. As much as she thought that her brother was a big pain half the time, she still loved him. All she wanted to do was show him how this felt for Nicolette when he did that to her. Never had she imagined that he would be this angry with her… Angry enough that he didn’t want her as a sister anymore…
Lillian was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice someone was calling her name until the person was in front of her.
“Lillian!”
