Chapter Five - Payback
When Nicolette stepped into the coed room, the thoughts of Skyler still lingered in her head until her foot connected with an object lying on the ground. Immediately, she went down, crashing into a nearby table, bringing her back to reality when something shattered.
Nicolette let out a few curses as she scanned the floor to see what she tripped on. To her dismay, she spotted the ‘hazard’, a stupid suitcase that screamed out Devon. As she stood up, she noticed a big ugly purple spot on her right knee, before wincing.
“Wow, look at what you did to the table! Gees, I hope its okay…” commented the annoying voice, coming from the person Nicolette hated. “Hold on, wait a minute, you knocked down the vase! You do know how much that had cost the school, right? And how much it will cost to replace, right?”
Nicolette took a quick glance at the ground to make sure that what Devon said was true and unfortunately, for once, he might be right. There lying on the floor was a bundle of flowers with the shattered remains of the vase.
“Shut up! Don’t go pointing the finger at me! It’s your fault that you left all your stuff out here!”
Devon just laughed. “Well, it’s not my fault that you weren’t watching where you’re going. Besides—” Suddenly, a certain number on the back of Nicolette’s hand suddenly caught his eye.
Immediately, he grabbed her arm and read through it three times, making sure he seen it right. Why would his cousin give his number to her? Why was he even here at this school? He shouldn’t be here, last time he checked, he was all the way in England.
Nicolette yanked her arm away from him. “Dude, my arm is not for yours to stare at.” she said.
“Did Skyler give you his number already?” he asked with a smirk.
“What? Gees, that’s none of your business.”
“Oh yeah? Well everything related to my cousin is my business. So what did he do, ask you out?”
Nicolette rolled her eyes. “Better, he’s one of the few guys I know that can actually respect a girl; he’s a real man.
“He’s more like a desperate man, especially going for someone like you!” sneered Devon as he walked away.
Nicolette felt herself heating up and she didn’t know why. Maybe it was because Devon had no respect for anyone, but himself, or maybe it was because he really pissed her off this time. Without thinking, she stepped over the broken bits of the vase and headed toward the kitchen. Then she walked over to the fridge and opened it. Surprisingly it was all packed with food. Her eyes scanned through the shelves and racks until it landed on the bottom row, where some cans of coke were.
“Payback time.” she muttered softly.
It was obvious where Devon was at the moment. In the small room next to the kitchen, there was sound blaring out from it, and a good thing he was there too. Nicolette wasn’t so willing to barge into his room to do what she was about to do next.
She shook the can of coke as she walked into the room where Devon lay, watching television. Within three seconds, she was blocking his view from the T.V.
“Move out of the way little girl, or I’ll move you!” growled Devon in a paranoid voice.
Nicolette smirked at him as she opened the can of coke and immediately dumped the whole drink on him.
