Chapter Seventeen – The Teddy Bear

Just because Devon and Nicolette were talking to each other on mutual terms for the last couple of weeks, it didn’t mean they were anywhere close to being friends.  To sum it up, they still piss each other off a whole lot.

“So you can’t get my diary back?!”

“Nope, I don’t feel like it and besides, Tessa is impossible to deal with these days.” replied Devon casually.

“Get it back! It’s your fault that she has it! You’re lucky I didn’t sue you yet! I swear if you don’t get it back for me I’ll—”

“All I’m hearing is blah, blah, blah. So shut up and let me listen to my music in peace!”

Nicolette screamed in frustration, walked towards him, grabbed his headphones and threw it across the room, along with his iPod Touch. It hit the wall with a crunch.

“If those get damaged, you’re paying for it!” growled Devon as he stood up to fetch his possibly damaged headphones and iPod Touch.

Nicolette huffed angrily as she stalked out of the living room and was about to head out of the dorm when she caught a glimpse of Devon’s room. The door was slightly ajar. She smirked; maybe she could use something to threaten him in there. She looked around for signs of Devon, but he was still in the living room. Quickly and quietly, she crept into his room and what she saw next surprised her.

The normally trashy and messy Devon Shade had an extremely clean and organized room. It was almost exactly like her room, where the bed was to the corner, a night table beside it, a T.V in front of the bed, a closet close to the door and a large oak table with a chair to do work at across from the closet. The only difference was that, it had a load of posters on the wall, ranging from cars, to woman, a guitar in the corner, a frame of photos on the table, and surprisingly a worn out brown teddy bear on the bed.

Nicolette walked to the frame of photos and looked at it. She was blown away at what she saw. It was a miniature version of Devon smiling and holding onto the same brown teddy bear that was on his bed. “What a weird guy…still having his teddy bear,” she mumbled as she took one glance towards it. Nicolette was about to approach it when the door suddenly slammed closed, making her spin around. Devon was staring at her, with his arms crossed.

“You’re in my room; nobody goes into my room… unless they want something.” he stated as a matter of fact, looking half angry and half amused.

Nicolette frowned slightly. She had no excuses, so she decided to come out with the truth. “Yeah, I wanted to find something to threaten you with so I can get my diary back.” she replied with a shrug, as if going to somebody’s room to steal something from them and having them catch you doing it was normal.

“You’re in my room,” he repeated again, stepping closer to her. “Do you know what that means?”

“Uh, no, but I’m not willing to find out!” she said as she suddenly backed away quickly and her legs bumped against the bed.

Devon moved even closer, “It means that I can do whatever I want with you—”

Nicolette made a quick grab at whatever was near her. “Take another step closer to me and I’ll…I’ll uh—” she looked down at the thing she grabbed and groaned. Why must she grab a teddy bear? “—rip the head off of your teddy bear!” she threatened. It was then that Nicolette realized how ridiculous she had sounded, but it had the effect that she never thought would’ve happen in a million years.
