Identifying Flocks
10/29/1996
There was a flock of birds today.
That came to eat and play.
All outside our third floor window,
While we waited for a class that was delayed.
They would hang upside down,
And swing like acrobats.
Ont the top most branches,
Of three birch trees; three floors high.
Some fluttered from branch to branch.
Some squabbled for positions.
Some just watched and eat the seeds.
While others arrived in a flurry of sound.
It took a while to identify,
In such an array of movement.
But identify I did: Pine Siskens they were.
One of a few small breeds to fly.
