Two weeks. Two weeks since Colby and I bought the house. Two weeks, we've been bickering about the move.
But somehow I found myself relaxed setting backstage at raw. I hadn't really seen Colby that much today but I knew he was completely stressed. Between the move and work he was so cranky we could barley stand to be around each other for more than a few hours.Hearing footsteps I didn't bothering looking up.
"How's the move, Nova?"
I looked up from my plate of grapes to see him standing there watching me closely. For a second I thought about ignoring the question, because the entire moving thing was stressing me out, but I found myself talking anyway.
"Great, actually! We should be by your house later this week to pick up my stuff, I mean unless Leighla wants my dirty underwear too."
He rolled his eyes, "Is that really necessary? Leighla didn't do anything. You just can't stand it that she's twice the woman you'll ever be."
"Were talking about the same Leighla right?" I chuckled, "Last I checked she was my best friend that was sleeping with my husband. She'll never be a woman, she merely a child. As are you and that's why I'm not going to set here and let you try to make me feel bad for your stupid mistakes."
Standing up I grabbed my plate and began to walk away before I got too upset over John.
"He's changed you."
Suddenly I stopped in my tracks, turning to see John eye to eye. His expression was softer, like he had proved a point. Like he was somewhat, sorry.
"What do you mean?"
"The woman I married wouldn't have walked away. She was angry all the time and was ready to go toe to toe with anyone anywhere. Except when her best friend was around. Seth makes you better, you're-" John took a deep breath, "you're so much better without me."
Swallowing the forming lump in my throat I nodded my head, "As much as I want to beat the shit out of you I know it's not worth it.. because I should be thanking you. If we were still together I'd still be miserable. You tried so hard to keep me and Colby away from each other but in the end, you brought us closer than we ever thought we'd be."
John smiled weakly before walking to stand right beside me. He had a big envelope in his hand along with his cell phone, but he wrapping his arms around me and hugged me tight.
"Part of me wished we'd settle our differences. But you deserve the best.." he handed me the envelope, "too bad it was never me."
He stepped away before leaving me in the, what I thought was, empty hallway. When I heard footsteps behind me I could already tell who it was.
"You heard that?" I asked.
"Every word."
Colby wrapped his arms around me from behind while he rested his head on my shoulder lazily. I leant back and relaxed into him feeling a million times better now that he was there and that he seemed in a good mood.
"What's the envelope?" Colb questioned turning me to face him.
"I have no clue, John gave it to me."
He grabbed it, "I'm curious."
As he pulled out a stack of papers the smile on his face grew wider and wider causing me to be very excited.
"What?!" I asked.
"Give it a few days and you'll no longer be known as Novalee Beth Cena, he got those papers signed."
