Chapter 10 Surprise

9:00 am. Beautiful, sunny, most perfect day to do random things.

Warrior was awake already, I was the late sleeper of the two of us. I don't know if we're friends, or a couple. Maybe just adventure buddies. I don't know. What if he didn't feel for me the way I feel for him? I mean, if that's so, I basically wasted my breath saying everything I had already said to him. Sometimes I'm just wasting my life.

A bird chirped and I just still laid down, listening to nature. I feel like today doesn't even make sense.

A starling noise then occurred. I slowly turn my head behind me half expecting there to be a hunter with a rifle and a dumb dog behind me. But it just turns out it was a tree that fell.

I start to walk down to the river but stopped by hearing a voice. Not just any voice though... Warriors.

I stalked him behind a boulder listening. I couldn't believe what I was hearing... Although it was slightly muffled, so I actually barely heard anything...

Suddenly he turned around and passed me. He looked tense. He turned his head to look at me while I stood there staring and said, "Oh. Hey Spirit. Heh. I was just uh, getting a drink. You know, normally."

I tilted my head and replied in a confused tone, "Um, are you okay?"

"Better than ever! Heh.." He shot back seeming even more tense, "Gotta um go. I'm going to hunt."

Hmm.... I thought to myself, wonder what's got into him. Maybe he just.. No... Maybe.. No.. Ugh, life is so confusing.

I took my drink of water and headed back to the den with Warrior still standing still and speaking. This time, I was worried. What if he was going to reject me and tell me to get lost like my sister? I prayed to myself that that's not the case. I can't do that. I can't just roam alone like I did on my first day. What if I run into my family and they decide to go hulk on me? Well, I don't know. What if I face those terrorist ravens again! ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN ON THE WILD SIDE OF THE WORLD!!

I stepped on a twig and it broke. Warrior shot his head to turn around. I pinned my ears and questioned him, "Um, are you okay?". He just looked at me with his eyes widened like he was in shock. "Hello?" I continued, "earth to Warrior?" He was scaring me. He really was. "Fine!" he shot back suddenly. "I was just you know, rehearsing my song to the birds, yeah!". He then turned around and ran off into the snow.

He wasn't rehearsing any song for all I know. When does he even sing to birds? He said it's his favorite for lunch. Maybe he was just rejecting me like the rest of my pack had. Maybe I am just a mistake. Maybe, you know, maybe I am just a joke, a nobody, a wolf with no potential. You know, why don't I just go and kill myself now? How about that for a change of scenario. Besides, everything and everyone has proved to me that I AM  nobody, that I don't matter, that I'm just here to eat, sleep, and die. That's why I'm really here. Not because I'm some magical wolf. Because I'm a nobody. That's who and what I am!

I barked and howled loudly into the sky. I ran through the snow to the nearest mountain top I could find. That's where I started, and that's where I'll end. I'll just be known as a nobody anyway, right? Just the indecisive one known my oh I don't know, everyone. My family let me down, my best friend let me down. I know what's next the Alpha God will let me down! That's whats's gonna happen. THAT'S WHAT I'M MEANT TO BE!

I stopped running, dead in my tracks, and just laid in the snow and cried my eyes out. Everything my sister said must have been true. Everything...

I heard foot steps in the snow. If it's a hunter, just let it kill me. I was meant to die anyways. I'll just be the forgotten one.

"Spirit?" I heard a deep voice say. I didn't reply. I just continued crying.

"Spirit?" I heard the voice say again. This time I looked up to see Warrior standing right above me.

"What do you want?" I answered in a scratchy and sad voice, "I know what you were going to do. You were going to reject me like my family did. You were going to leave me to die alone, since I'm just a nothing."

"What?" he asked me, "I was never going to do that! I can't abandon you Spirit!"

"Then what as all that strange things you said to yourself my the river and the den?" I asked, "Weren't you rehearsing to let me go softly?"

He looked confused, "No! I wasn't rehearsing for that it was for something else, but I guess I wasted my time."

I got up and looked him in the eyes, "Then what were you rehearsing for?.."

He smiled and sat down in front of me. He looked down shyly then into my eyes.

"Spirit, oh my dear Spirit. The one who I spent so much time trying to be with. The one I keep safe. The one I love. Spirit. The extraordinary one. The wolf with magic like none other. The magical wolf I keep safe. Spirit, you make my world amazing. I couldn't be more happy that you're here. You mean everything to me. The sun to my morning and the moon to my night. I'm incomplete without you. There's just one thing I want you to know. The one thing that comes from my heart. The magic in me that I know I have. I might not have powers, I may not be the strongest wolf around, I may not be handsome. But even though I don't have these characteristics, I know I can make up for them in my heart. So there's one thing I want to know. Spirit, may I have the amazing honor of calling you my mate? I love you Spirit, I really do. I'm nothing without you by my side."

I felt like bursting into tears from his words. It was so sweet, and I felt like I mattered. I ran into his neck and said into his fur, "Yes Warrior! Yes! You can! I feel the exact same for you Warrior, I really do!" I ran out of his neck and kissed his nose. I was crying tears of happiness. It felt so amazing to hear someone say that to me, after everyone just told me I'm worthless. But I really do feel like he cares about me. He looked like he was crying too and I just squished my face into his plush fur. I feel like my dreams are coming true.
