Hermione sat at the foot of her bed with her trunk open debating what she should take with her on holiday. She had just sent the owl to her parents explaining that she had too much work and had to stay at school this year. She was going to tell Ron and Harry the same thing and hoped Ginny wouldn't find out until she got home so there was no chance of her staying.

She threw in a couple pairs of jeans, so nicer shirts, and her favorite coat that had large buttons down the front and was very flattering to her figure.  She sighed and snapped it closed realizing it didn't really matter what she had to wear, all that mattered was she was with Severus.

The common room was empty. Everyone was down in the great hall having their last conversations with friends from other houses before they left tomorrow morning.

Hermione sat down on the bed and let out a deep breath. Was she really doing this? She knew that it was wrong, that Professor McGonagall didn't mean just at school but it was a step forward. What if someone found out? There was a knock at the door and Ginny walked in looking concerned but had a smile on her face.

"Hi." Ginny said

Hermione looked at her trunk and shot her eyes at Ginny. "Uh. Hi."

"So you're packing to go home?"

"Uh... No, I'm staying here... I'm actually unpacking. I thought I was going home but then things changed."  She took the trunk and slid it under her bed.

"Oh? Uh... Ok then." She sat on the bed where Hermione had been sitting before and looked up at her. "I wanted to apologize for the other day. I know it wasn't your fault. I'm just so stressed you know?"

"It's fine Ginny, I understand."

"No, it's not. I was horrible."

"Ginny, it's all right. We just need to put this behind us."

"So you're not seeing Professor Snape anymore?"

"What? How'd you get to that?"

"Well I just assumed you'd be smart enough to end it. And I haven't had to follow you to his class at all so I just guess that you stopped seeing him."

"No Ginny. We are still the same people. We can't just end what we have. You were mad so I didn't ask you to come with me. We have kept our distance."

"I just think it's stupid. You should wait until the year is over and then see how you feel." She stood up and crossed to the door.

"So you come to apologize and then criticize me? What a wonderful combination."

"Just thought I'd let you know how I felt."

"Oh you have made your feelings very clear. I just thought that I had made myself clear as well, but apparently not."

Ginny walked out the door without another word. Hermione hated that Ginny was caught in the middle of this and that it was taking such a toll on their relationship. Hermione shook her head and crawled into bed. She hoped that a good nights rest would help put her mind at ease so she could have an enjoyable holiday.
