{Lights POV}
The bells ring tore me out of my thoughts and caused me to jolt forward in surprise. I got up out of my chair and began leaving the classroom.
"Light?" I heard the familiar monotone voice call out. "Yes?" I turned to face the boy I was talking to.
"My name is L." He said sheepishly. How cute.
"Oh okay." I said and gave him a friendly smile. "Can we be friends Yagami-San?" He asked.
"Drop the formalities just call me Light. Of course we can be friends. Bye L!" I called and left the classroom.
He was a weird guy but something about him made me want to befriend him. He just seemed like he needed a friend.
And to be honest... I needed one too.
{know how you love them time skips}
I left the gates and walked home. Alone as usual. I was reading a book while walking until I felt a tap on my shoulder I turned to face none other than L.
"Hi Light." He said a bit more enthusiastic than usual and it made me smile. "Hey L how was your first day back?" I asked trying my best to make a conversation.
"Oh okay I suppose." He said unsurely and my smile faltered slightly. Because I knew it wasn't okay, because I knew he was lying to me. "Well that's a blatant lie now isn't it?" I said flatly and raised an eyebrow. "Yes it was a lie." He replied truthfully.
"Wanna talk about it L?"
"Not particularly no."
The conversation stopped at that note and we walked in an awkward silence that made my palms sweat and my hands itch because for some reason I wanted to comfort him.
"W-well umm this is my house L." I informed him as we approached my home. "Okay Light I enjoyed your company." He was so hyper formal and emotionless. It was no longer creepy but annoying. I wanted to see the stranger smile. I wanted his black eyes to lighten for just a moment and the corners of his mouth twitch up.
More importantly I wanted to be the one who made him smile. That fact I couldn't deny.
{L's POV}
After Light had shut the door to his house I stopped in front of it for a moment. I took one hand from my pocket and nibbled at my thumb, a terrible habit I've had since I was a child.
I moved away once I realised how unacceptable it was to be starring into your crushes window.
Ever since elementary I've had what they call a crush on Yagami-San and I've only just mustered up the courage to talk to him. In the last year of high school.
He was one of the kids who stuck up for the seemingly weak and helpless. Him and his best friend at the time Mikami that is. I've always been bullied by people. Children, teens, adults, the elderly... I could go on.
None of this has anything to do with the fact I seem emotionless but rather the fact I look strange and I have no parents. And so starts the endless chain of dead parents jokes. I've had everything from "your mamas so! Wait! She's dead!" To just good old "ORPHAN!" It's depressing but I got used to it.
No one should have to get used to that.
It's what made the rings around my eyes darker by the day. What made my back curve with the weight of everyday life. What made my eyes void of emotion.
It's what made me void of emotion.
What made me empty.
