Chapter 11

Riker POV

I needed to calm Emma down somehow. Sure, I was pretty scared too, but Emma was shaking!

"Emma, we need to go out and meet my dad."

"But those guys-"

"Shhh. Ok? We'll be fine. I promise."

I pulled Emma so we were both standing in front of the mirror. I put my arm around her waist after putting her hand on my belt loop again.

"No one's going to mess with us. We'll walk out there, past those guys, we'll walk out the door, get in my dad's car, and go home. Ok?"

Emma started crying again.

"Emma, please! No! You can't be like this! We'll seem vulnerable. You need to act tough, ok?"

"Ok."

I opened the door with my free hand. Those guys started walking towards us, but I could see my dad's car outside.

"Run!" I whispered.

Emma and I ran out the door and jumped in the back of my dad's car.

"Are you guys ok?" My dad asked.

"Yeah. We're fine. These 2 guys were following us, and we just didn't want to walk home with them behind us," I said, trying to make Emma's crying quieter.

Once we buckled our seatbelts, my dad started driving home. Emma laid her head on my shoulder and held onto my hand really tight.

When we got home, she practically sprinted up to Rydel's room. I walked up to my room, where Rocky was in bed already, doing something on his phone.

"How'd it go?" Rocky asked, still looking at his phone.

"Awful," I said, looking down, shaking my head.

"Again?"

"Yeah. Both times, she thought she was going to get murdered. The second time it was because of these 2 guys, but still. I just feel so bad."

"Oh yeah, dad told me he had to go pick you guys up."

"Yeah... That wasn't even the worst part. I did all these totally embarrassing things at the restaurant we went to. I dropped my knife, knocked over my chair, and I even spilt water all over Emma!"

"Whoa! Dude! You must have fallen hard for this girl!"

"Why?"

"Riker, everyone knows that you get really klutzy and nervous around girls you're crazy about."

"Yeah, well I really screwed up this time."

"Why? She'll get over it, I'm sure."

"No. Rocky, you don't understand! This was my second chance! She said I only had one more chance, and this was it! I blew it! I've lost her forever!"

"Riker, come on."

"No! Seriously!"

"Did she say anything about it?"

"No. She ran up to Rydel's."

"Oh."

"I just hate the whole thing! I screwed up, and now... I lost her..."
