Chapter 25

Emma POV

I heard a thud, and then Riker cursed loudly. He probably punched a wall or kicked something. Another stupid decision...

I didn't care anymore. I thought there might be hope that we could be friends, but Riker proved it that he couldn't just be friends. And he ruined it for himself. That's not my problem. Actually it is, because he's bugging me! But it shouldn't be my problem.

I left Rydel's room and headed downstairs. I needed a drink. I was so hot with frustration after everything that just happened. I got myself some ice cold water and headed back upstairs.

Who did I see in the hall, but Riker. He glared at me. I could see his knuckles were bleeding. He slammed the bathroom door.

I texted Rydel, asking when she'd be back from dance. She wouldn't be back for a couple of hours still. I decided to text Chase and see if he was free. I needed to get out of this house. Luckily, he wasn't doing anything, and he said he'd be right over. I grabbed a jacket and my phone, and then went downstairs to wait for him.

Chase arrived a minute later, and I got in his car.

"Where are we going?" Chase asked.

"I don't care. Just get me away from here."

Chase started driving, and kept glancing over at me weirdly. I stared straight ahead, trying not to explode from anger.

"Emma?"

"What?"

"Are you ok?"

I sighed.

"Yeah. Sorry..."

"It's ok. Do you want to talk about it?"

"Not really..."

"Ok. If you do, I'm here."

"Thanks, Chase."

"So do you want to grab a bite to eat or something?"

"Sure."

Chase picked a restaurant, and we went inside. We got a booth in the back, and ordered our food. I sat there, kind of annoyed still, stirring my soda with the straw. I could feel Chase staring at me.

"Emma?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm worried about you."

"I'm fine, Chase. But thanks for worrying. I'm just so mad."

"At me?"

"No. You're being amazing."

"Who then?"

"Riker."

"He's the guy that saved you from the pool, right?"

"Yeah..."

"What'd he do?"

"It's kind of a long story..."

"We have all the time in the world."

I smiled.

"Riker and I used to date."

Chase seemed surprised.

"He kept pushing me too far. One day I just decided I couldn't take the craziness anymore, and broke up with him. He's still completely head over heels for me. He keeps trying to win me back, but it's just annoying."

"Well what'd he do today?"

"We haven't really talked to each other. Today we finally had an actual conversation. We decided to try being friends since we live together. He kept trying to be more than that like putting his arm around me during a movie we were watching."
