Erika's POV
The pirates tie up our hands and throw us in a small, makeshift, wooden cage. Obviously, they built this sorry mistake meant to keep us in.
"So do we carry the cage to the ship mate?" An ugly pirate asks the one called John.
"No, we wait for orders from the Capt'n."
Logan was part of this? Why? What is his motive for locking Sophie and I into a cage and keeping us captive? I thought he was someone better. I guess what they say is true, never trust a pirate.
I know Logan wasn't going to show up for a while, at least that's what John said. I had time to get us out of this mess. John said that the captain wasn't coming till midnight. I looked up at the sky and knew the sun is starting to set. The pirates start to light lanterns and build a fire to sit around. There were about six pirates, including John. I knew it couldn't possibly be the entire crew. I saw more men come off that ship.
I noticed that one of the members seems to take an interest in Sophie and is just staring at her. The greasy bald man is creeping me out, so I can only imagine what Sophie is currently feeling. His creepy eyes are focused on her.
"Erika, I'm scared." Sophie whispers.
"I know, we will get out of this." I whisper back.
"I don't want to go back there again." she said urgently.
"You don't want to go where again?"
"Last time they visited, they took me to their ship. I was trapped." She says as the tears fall down her cheeks. "They kept me there in a steal cage until Cam saved me. I don't want to go back to that ship."
I didn't want to believe it. But the truth is right in front of me.
Locked in a cage.
Pirates asking if we are going back to the ship.
It's patterned behaviour. History repeating itself. Locking a young child up and using her as bait. Anger bubbles within me. All I know for sure is that these pirates are going to pay.
My right wrist starts to tingle. I feel heat slowly spread throughout my body.
"Oh, that's hot." Sophie hisses beside me.
"What is?"
"Your wrist." She hisses.
I bring my wrist up to inspect it. Wait, weren't my hands supposed to be tied up?
"Put your hands back behind you." Sophie whispers. "Quick, before they see that you're out." She whispers again. I put my hands behind my back.
"What's happening?" I whisper wondering what they hell that was all about.
"The island gave you a power." She replies and I think she has a smile on her face.
"What?"
Did I just hear her right? The island gave me a power.
Sophie sighs. "I only have one power. I can control water. I know you've seen the tattoo. You must have just gotten one too. How else would you have burnt the rope?" she questions knowing the answer already.
Everything I knew about this place is going to change. Suddenly, everything I thought was made up with creative imagination is now a possible reality. I look at the wooden bars that I thought would keep us trapped. "I guess we can get out of this now."
I reach over to the ropes around Sophie's hands and burn them off as I think about burning them. I look around to see if the pirates are watching us. All of them are talking around the campfire.
