Chapter 23
We're all sitting at the dining table waiting to be questioned. The silence is so annoying and I sigh heavily. That earns me a stern look from Wayne and I mentally say 'go to hell'. I look at Aunt Diane and she's also annoyed. I look at Uncle Elijah but he just looks bored.
After Wayne told me to speak the truth. We heard the sirens outside and he had no other choice but to take care of things but we weren't allowed to talk to each other.
Aunt Diane had to go to hospital but she didn't want to. After a colourful exchange of words with Wayne and the Medics. It was decided that she'd be questioned first then taken to hospital.
The perpetrator was still unconscious when the medics came to fetch him. From the corner of my eye, I was looking at Wayne and I could see his stance was tense. I then looked at his colleagues and I could see the accusing look on their faces. It's because of me this happened.
When is detective Johnson coming to question us so that they could just leave? Wayne wasn't going to question us and that's fine with me.
I looked at Aunt Diane and saw her glaring at one of the female officers. She must've done something cos Aunt Diane glared harder at her and cleared her throat.
"It's a pity you only have the guts to look at Alicia like that when she's not looking at you." I turned around and glared at the person in question. She paled when she saw me and looked away. She then walked away and I kept looking at her.
I brought my attention back to Aunt Diane and she was shaking her head, "bitch aint even got the guts to do it to your face. Aunt Diane then snorted, "She can be glad her ass is a cop or else I would've cancelled her birth certificate a long time ago."
Uncle Elijah then snorted, "like that's ever stopped you before, Diane."
The officers all turned to glare us and I couldn't help but smile.
We heard footsteps and saw it was Detective Johnson. Finally!
Wayne walked over to him and Detective Johnson talked to him and the other officers. His facial expression wasn't giving anything away and I shook my head.
He took a seat and looked at us but said nothing. He then took out his notepad and pen and wrote something. He put his pen down and took out his recorder. He gave brief details over the recorder and put it down on the table. He turned his attention back to us and folded his arms.
He cleared his throat and said, "out of my many years working as a detective. I've had the opportunity of interviewing each of you. All ya'll had been a headache and now that I'm nearing my retirement I've hit a milestone in my career. I get to interview all ya'll together."
"I thought you were already retard (retired)." Uncle Elijah said and I smiled. Uncle Elijah said retard on purpose cos he does say retired right.
Detective Johnson glared at him cos he knew it too. He however continued, "ya'll give a good enough account but ya'll aint ones for details. Either ya'll just don't care to pay enough attention to certain details." He looked at Uncle Elijah when he said that. He then looked at me, "or ya'll purposely leave certain details out."
He then looked at Aunt Diane and said, "Or it could be both." Neither one of us said anything and waited for him to continue. "So I'ma ask ya'll nicely. Please tell me everything ya'll can and this will make things easier for us. We don't want this guy acquitted cos ya'll left details out."
We nodded and Uncle Elijah was the first one to explain. However the talk Detective Johnson gave us clearly didn't work and he was annoyed.
Uncle Elijah was very much, matter of fact. Detective Johnson would ask him various questions but Uncle Elijah just answered in a bored tone. He did however lie and said he was lying in bed and heard Aunt Diane and I walking down the hallway to and from her room. We were also making a noise and he got a bit angry with us.
