We marveled at the giant walls that stood before us. How had we not traveled far enough to see these before?
"Hurry inside." Erwin says. I follow and my team follows me.
Once inside we look around. It's a town! At least I think so. I've never seen a town before. Only in the storybooks. People stare at us and I can see Stream getting nervous, Foal wraps an arm around her to say 'it's ok'. I've had a feeling for a while now they were together.
We arrive at a large building with the same emblem as on the back of the three people that had found us painted across a flag in the front. Were they important? Was it a cult? A gang? I prepared myself for the worst.
The three I have decided to call, the wall dwellers, lead us inside.
"Everyone's at the cafeteria right now for lunch." The brunette says. "So we'll go there to introduce all of you. But we don't even know your names." She looked at me exspectantly and again Foal only signed, 'it's up to you.' Sure, NOW he wanted me to be the leader.
"My name is River, the girl with the dark hair is Stream, next to her is my brother Foal. Then the ginger twins to my other side are Night and Fae." I respond.
"River? Night? Foal? Stream? Fae? What kind of names are those?" She asks, looking humered. I glare at her. We have been named by the most powerful things in nature.
The doors open and there is a group of humans much larger than that of our clan inside. They are very loud and I wonder why titans haven't heard a feast yet, then I remember the walls. They really work.
"Attention." Erwin shouts. They all go silent and look at him. Did he really have that much power? Or did people fear him? If it was me I'd fear the midget more, he hadn't stopped death glaring me sense I shot his leader. Speaking of which, they all took note of the wound with the now removed arrow.
"We have found a group of five people outside the walls that have been surviving for the 100 years sense the war started." He says, everyone is shocked at that and I hear some mumbles like 'impossible' and 'they're lieing.' "So they will stay here until we find out what to do with them, we wish to eventually allow them and their clan to be full citizens of the walls." He countinues.
"Wait, I never agreed to anything." I say. Foal shoots me a look and I can tell what he's thinking. It's safer here. These walls have keep the titans away so far, and if they've stood all 100 years we could take a good guess that they'll stand 100 more. The clan would be safe here. Happy.
I sigh. "We will stay here if you want us too." I agree. He nods in confirmation. "Then it is decided." he says before walking off to fix his wound, I see pain in his eyes and bite my lip, I'm sorry... He mumbles something to the dwarf as he leaves and the midget looks annoyed.
"It seems I have to show you around because you shot him." He says, crossing his arms.
"Sorry." I reply like it's nothing. "He shouldn't have threatened us."
"He didn't."
"He grabbed Stream!"
"To prevent her from running away!"
"In our clan that's frowned upon. Sorry if it's not in your mixed up wall society."
I cross my arms and he does the same. "Tch." He mumbles, I roll my eyes. He shouldn't have grabbed Stream and he wouldn't have gotten shot.
"Just follow me." The dwarf mumbles, he leads us down hallways vaguely telling us what is where before finally stopping. "Well that's it, now we should go meet Erwin and Hanji so you can tell us more about how you survived.
"Hanji?" I asked.
"The other one that was with us." He clarifys. I nod.
Looking around fear fills me. "Has anyone seen Stream?" I ask. They all shake their heads. "We lost Stream!" I shout. No need to fear, her instincts will allow her to find her way back to us. She can smell the clan scent and follow the halls...I hope. Her sight always has been the better of her two hunter senses.
I sniff for her earning me a strange look from the dwarf. "I'm smelling for Stream." I say, searching again. "You can SMELL her?" He asks, non believeing. I nod. "Duh, can't you?" Maybe it was only a human thing and dwarfs couldn't. "Oh, wait, can dwarfs not do that?" He looks a little more pissed than usual. "I'm not a dwarf." He says annoyed.
He so was a dwarf. I picked up Streams scent. "Got it." I say, it was faint but it was there. The rest of my group sniff and pick it up to.
"Let's go." Foal instructs. We all follow him even though I'M supposed to be leading this group. I pause and hold up a hand to stop, I smell the dwarf. He's following us. "Shit. Can't he just stay there?" I ask to no particular person. Soon enough he's behind us.
"Don't run off like that!" He scolds. This time I copy something I've heard him do multiple times in annoyance, "tch." I say. He grows more annoyed if possible that I used his word against him. Streams smell is stronger, but there's another. A human. Male. Teen. She's with one of them.
I sprint off again, followed closely by my group. "Wait!" The dwarf shouts. I don't. Who am I to follow his orders? I don't even know if I can trust him yet.
We round a corner and I see Stream, backed against a wall fearfully looking at the Brown haired man in front of her.
"I won't hurt you. You're one of them aren't you?" He asks. She can't find her voice and just nods. I can tell she smells us now and gets ready to run when he grabs her arm. What's with all the grabing here?! I tackle him to the ground, catching him off guard.
"Why would you touch her?!" I shout. "I'm sorry!" He shouts back, still in shock. "Get off me!" He tries to push me away but I'm stronger. I take out my knife and press it to his neck. "Listen here buddy, I don't know how it works here in your walls but out there, with my clan, you get killed for doing shit like that." I say, my eyes narrowed slits and my nose wrinkled in discust at the wall dweller.
"I'm sorry I didn't know!" He assures me. "Are you insane?!" I just laugh. "Insane? Of course I am! We all are! It doesn't take much to snap your sanity when you're born in the midst of an apacolypse!" I shout, a wicked grin spreading across my face.
He goes limp and stares at me, pure fear in his face.
"EREN!" I hear a voice shout, they have a accent I haven't heard before. Maybe japanese? Why hadn't I smelled them? I mean, there was a slight change in the air but I assumed it was a flower or something. So unusual.
Before I can process who it is I feel a sharp pain on the side of my temple and I fall to the side off the wall dweller I'm assuming is 'Eren'. I'm lifted by my collar and see two people, a Japanese girl holding my up with a look of hatred, and a blonde teen about the other twos age tending to the brunette boy.
That's when I recognized the smell, no wonder I hadn't taken note of it. It was unique, one only Stream had, Lilac hints added into the normal human smell. Japanese.
The girl aims a punch at my face but I kick her back before she can. I reverse my hold on the knife and charge at her, going for her neck. She dodges easily and I fall to the ground, she kicks me and I'm knocked out. She was good at fighting! Were they all? Is that what the symbol meant? A amry? No, I shouldn't get ahead of myself. You'd have to be stupid to think you could win against a titan.
I open my eyes and my group is staring down at me, I sniff once, the others have left.
"Did you smell that girl?" Foal asks. I nod. "Japanese. Same as Stream." I confirm.
The dwarf comes running down the hall. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?! I TOLD YOU NOT TO RUN AWAY! AND WHY WAS THE JAGER BRAT CUT?!" I rolled my eyes.
"Relax dwarf, we only hurt him for trying to touch Stream. It was threatening."
"For the last time, it's not threatening and I'm not a dwarf!"
"Tch."
He angered even more, I knew he hated when I copied him.
"Don't worry, his girlfriend saved his ass." Night says. The dwarf was going to protest again when I saw the other two wall dwellers that had captured us walk towards us.
"Where have you been?" Erwin asked.
"These brats ran away from me." The dwarf responded.
"We lost Stream." I clarified. "We found her here with some German kid."
"Very well. Come on we need to discuss your clan in further detail."
I followed the tall man down the hall, I couldn't help but scowl at the dwarf. He scowled back. I didn't trust him.
