“It’s so good to have you all back here”

Joan beams at the small gathering of people sat around her living room sipping from freshly brewed mugs of tea.  Cheryl’s mam hadn’t stopped since they’d arrived, pottering around and fussing over the three of them incessantly.

“Dinner should be ready soon” she carries on, glancing at the clock on the wall and shaking her head, “I don’t know where your brother can have got to…”

As if on cue the doorbell rings and Joan shoots off to answer it eventually re-emerging with Garry.

“Only tea? I thought this was a celebration?!” he jests, producing two carrier bags laden with booze from behind his back.

Cheryl, Kimberley and Nicola get up, taking turns to hug the Geordie man as Joan looks on happily.

Stepping back Cheryl sniffs the air,

“Err…mam, what’s that smell?”

“Ooh!”  Joan throws her hands up in alarm, “me chicken!”

Scooting off into the kitchen she leaves the four of them chatting.

“So how long are you up here for?” Garry asks, sitting himself down between Cheryl and Kimberley and cracking open a can.

“A week” the Bradfordian replies with a smile, “Chez’s promised to take me sight-seeing”

“That’ll take you all of a fun-packed day” Garry teases, earning a nudge from his sister.

“Shut up! There’s loads of stuff to see.  Besides I want to show her some of me old haunts”

“Oh aye” Garry gives Kimberley a wry smile, “she must think you’re a keeper, not every girlfriend gets ‘the Tweedy tour’ you know!”

“Hmm…that’s true” Nicola adds sagely.

Kimberley watches as Cheryl blushes, obviously embarrassed by her brother’s revealing comment.

“Well…” the Geordie takes a breath, “yeah, she’s really special, which’s why I’ve decided to move in with her”

Garry takes a swig from his lager,

“Wow! Congrats!  Does this mean I can come and use your pool more often?”

Kimberley laughs,

“Sure but no skinny dipping this time eh?”

She shudders comically,

“I’m still trying to get those images of you and Adam out of my mind”

This time it’s Garry’s turn to blush, turning an equally bright shade of crimson as his sister.

“Blame Sarah and your sisters, they were the ones who got us p!ssed on fireball vodka!”

Nicola smiles smugly,

“I don’t think they quite expected yous to both take your clothes off and go streaking through the house though!”

Cheryl pulls a grossed-out face,

“Thank fcuk all the other guests had left and the press too!  The last thing I want to see when I’m eating me brekkie is your meat and two veg spread all over the front page!”

Upon hearing laughter Joan sticks her head round the kitchen door,

“What’s spread all over the front page?”

Cheryl grins,

“Oh nothing important mam”

“Well your dinner’s ready” Joan announces proudly, “will you set the table for me pet”
