A few weeks had passed since Kimberley’s important meeting.  The Bradfordian knew her management were getting restless for her to do the aforementioned big magazine interview but she was insistent that her family got to meet Cheryl before that happened.  After all they deserved to know who’d helped give her the strength to come out after such a long time and she wanted Cheryl to become a proper part of her family.

She’d also wanted to meet the Geordie’s mum and brother and, after some wrangling, had finally persuaded Cheryl to invite them down to the house for a weekend.

“Have you told your family about me?” she’d asked as they lay in bed together one night, entwined in post coital bliss.

Cheryl had nodded, tightening her grip round Kimberley’s waist.

“Yeah, I told them I’d met someone very special on a job”

“And were they happy?”

“Mmhmm, me mam can’t wait to meet the special woman and Gary asked me if you were hot”, she’d smiled happily, “typical Gary”

A couple of days later Cheryl had finally picked up the phone and given her brother directions.

“Right then, two of the spare bedrooms are made up and I’ve put fresh towels in the en-suites, oh and I’m going to drive into the village later and pick up some more of that lager you and Gary like, does your mum like anything in particular?”

“You really don’t have to go to all this fuss” Cheryl states with a grin, “it’s not a royal visit”

She gestures around the large yet cosy open-plan kitchen with its giant cooker, expensive textured wallpaper and antique wood table and chairs.

“You do know that they’re probably going to be too in awe of all this to be worrying about fresh towels and lager!”

“I know” Kimberley sighs, walking up to the Geordie and sliding her arms round her waist, “I need them to be relaxed, the last thing I want is them feeling intimidated by me ”

“Then just be yourself” Cheryl smiles, “you’re one of the nicest, most down to earth people I know, they’ll be able to see that too”

“You think?”

“I’m sure of it pet.  Now I‘m gonna take a shower before they get here”

“Oh yeah, room for one more?”

“Mmm…I don’t see why not…”

Meanwhile, not too far away…

“Bloody hell I‘ve been driving for ages! Are you sure you‘re reading that map right?”

Joan’s eyes emerge from behind a large fold out AA road guide and she gives an exasperated sigh.

“That’s right Gary, blame your mam! Look the directions your sister gave you say exactly the same thing as this so it must be around here somewhere!”

Muttering she disappears back behind the map as Gary carries on driving down the densely wooded lane.

“Cheryl!” Kimberley calls into the wet room.

“Yeah”

The Geordie walks out with a large towel wrapped round her body and another smaller one in her hand.

“I’m just nipping out, I won’t be long”

Cheryl nods, rubbing the towel over her wet hair.

“Aye, drive careful eh”

“I always do” Kimberley grins, blowing her a kiss, “see you in a bit sexy!”

“Look, look!”

Joan waves her hand in the direction of an elderly gentleman ambling down the narrow pavement in a tweed suit.

“There’s someone there, stop and ask them, they might know where it is”

Stopping the car Gary lowers the window.

“Excuse me mate, I’m looking for a place it’s called..erm…” he glances down at the piece of paper on the dashboard, “Garsforth, any idea where it is?”

“Yes of course” the man lifts his arm, pointing them onwards, “the hall’s just down that way.  Keep on following the road and you’ll see a turnstile, the gates for the hall are more or less opposite.  I’m taking it you’re family or friends, you don’t look like paparazzi?”

“Err…no we’re not paparazzi, thanks for your help”

Raising the window Joan looks at Gary.

“Well that was strange, why would we be paparazzi?”

“Dunno”, he shrugs, “country bumpkins, you know what they’re like”

Putting the car into gear he’s just about to pull forward as a black four by four with tinted windows comes hurtling round the corner doing well over the speed limit.

“See” he turns to Joan, rolling his eyes, “country bumpkins, they’re fcuking nutters, I mean who‘d drive at that speed on a road like this?!”

Humming to herself happily Kimberley pulls up outside the local shops and releases her seatbelt.  Sliding it off she pauses for a few minutes to reflect on the ‘afternoon delight’ she’d just enjoyed in the wet room with Cheryl.  She’d have to try very hard not to dwell on that in the company of Cheryl’s mum and brother.  Grabbing her bag she exit’s the car and heads into the mini market, a smile on her face.

“Welcome to Garsforth Hall.  Would all visitors please use the intercom” Gary repeats the words inscribed on the small sign next to the wrought iron gates.

“Aha! Garsforth Hall!” Joan clicks her fingers,  “I knew it sounded familiar when you mentioned Garsforth, this’s the place she’s been doing that job on for ages.  You know, the one she’s been so shifty about these past months, wouldn’t tell us who she was working for.  Now what the hell’s our Cheryl doing inviting us to a place like this?”

“I don’t know mam but I think we’re about to find out”
