Chapter 9

"My heart." Alec said quietly.

Magnus looked shattered. Like he has any right to look like that. Alec thought bitterly.

Not only was Magnus' hair flat and dull, but his makeup was smeared and his eyes were puffy.

Plus, he wasn't sparkly.

{Like, whoa.}

"Alexander," Magnus whispered. He took a step toward Alec.

"Get away from me!" He shouted, taking several steps away from Magnus. Alec couldn't be close to Magnus.  Although he would never admit it, it was hard for Alec to be in the same room with Magnus without breaking down in tears.

"You broke me Magnus! You took my heart and stomped on it!" His eyes were shining.

"I'm sorry." Magnus looked at Alec pleadingly.

"Me too." Alec looked at Magnus straight in the eyes. They pierced Magnus like spears.

"You have to know it was an accident." Magnus pleaded.

Alec scoffed loudly.

"Yeah, you accidentally held a party and a faerie accidentally handed you a drink. Then, you accidentally drank it, accidentally got drunk and accidentally ended up with a faerie in your bed. Of course." Alec's voice dripped heavy with sarcasm.

"He slipped something in the drink! I had no idea! I was hallucinating! You know I wouldn't do that to you!" Magnus was desperate to convince Alec that he never meant to hurt him.   
   "Do I, Magnus? Do I know that you wouldn't do that? Because you did!"

"Maybe if you came to the parties it wouldn't have happened!"

Alec looked at him like he was insane.

"Yeah, okay!" he yelled. "I should come to every single party that you throw so I can keep an eye on you and make sure that you don't accidentally sleep with someone else!"

"You know that is not what I meant!" Magnus shrieked.

"Then what did you mean, Magnus?"

Magnus shook his head angrily.

When he didn't answer, Alec spoke again.

"Why do you think I hate you throwing these parties? Because in the back of my mind that thought is always there. But I brush it off, because I think 'he'll never do that to me'.
"And just look how wrong I was!
Yet I still let you have the parties because they made you happy. I could see how much you enjoyed them. I did it for you, Magnus. Because I love you. And look where that got me!" Alec grunted.

"I wish that I had never fallen in love with you." Alec said, almost like an afterthought.

Magnus stared at him.

"What?" he could barely force the word out of his mouth.

"I said," Alec said through gritted teeth, "that I wish I had never fallen in love with you."
