Chapter 13

"I'm back, losers!" a familiar voice announced. The bell rang five minutes ago, so the person was late.

I looked up, chuckling when I saw who it was.  Mrs. Timmons wasn't as impressed. "I see you're back from vacation, Cannon," she said to the boy standing in the doorway with his famous smirk. Normally, someone would get in trouble for disrupting the class like Cannon did. However, Mrs. Timmons, and every other teacher, got used to his behavior.

Cannon nodded. "Yes, and now everyone can bask in my presence."

"Take your seat, please," she said.

Cannon's eyes moved to mine and he cracked a smile. "Hunter, my man!"

       "Seat, Cannon," Mrs. Timmons repeated.

Cannon shrugged before taking the empty seat beside me. Mrs. Timmons then told us to get back to our work after she gave Cannon his worksheet.

"So," Cannon said. "How come you've never told me you are Austin Bolton's son?"

I rolled my eyes. "Very funny."

"Come on, I thought I was your best friend," he said. "You kept such a big secret from me. I think you owe me big time."

"You should know by now that I keep secrets from everyone," I said. "How was vacation?"

"Great," he said. "No school, beautiful girls. Best time of my life. It was such a shame it came to an end. Now, about who your dad is...."

I ignored him and turned to Violet, who was on the other side of me. "Can you help me with my work? Cannon is annoying me."

"Ouch," Cannon said. "And why do you need help? I thought you were independent."

Cannon didn't know about my dyslexia. It was like I said, I kept secrets from everyone. "Because I do," I said.

"Tell me why," Cannon said. "Or I will announce to the whole class that you're hiding something."

       "Be my guest," I said.

"Alright," Cannon said, standing up from his and stepping onto his desk, which got everyone's attention immediately. "Fellow classmates! I have an important announcement!"

"Cannon, get off the desk," Mrs. Timmons said.

"Not yet," Cannon said. "I have something very important to say. Something about everyone's favorite celebrity, Hunter Bolton!"

I wasn't actually that surprised Cannon did that. With him, you always have to expect the unexpected.

"Cannon, off, now," Mrs. Timmons said. "And I'll be calling your parents."

Cannon hopped off his desk and sat back down. Without another word, he began working on his worksheet.

Violet helped me with my worksheet, even though she wasn't able to do hers. It was another thing I liked about her. She always made sure I understood everything before doing her work.

When the bell rang, Mrs. Timmons told Cannon to stay since his dad was on the way. This should be interesting. Cannon's parents have never been in the school for him before, even though he got in trouble loads of times before.

"Hunter, I'm going to head to chemistry," Violet said. "I'll see you there."

I gave her a wave as she left before I began packing up my stuff. "What, you're leaving me?" Cannon asked.
