Chapter 17
I drove as close as the school doors I could in my new car that my dad actually bought me. I took my driver's test a couple days ago and surprisingly, I passed. Even more surprisingly, Dad did buy me a car. I kept saying I could use the family car, but he refused. He thought it would be better if I had my own just in case we both had somewhere to be.
I rolled down my window and leaned a bit out the window as Violet walked out of the school. "Hey, pretty lady!" I called. "Want a ride?!"
Violet smiled as she walked over, getting into the passenger seat. "Perfect timing. My dad called and told me he was stuck at work and I actually do need a ride home."
"One problem," I said. "I'm not taking you home. We are going to spend today at the carnival."
"Sounds perfect," Violet said. "I need a break after a stressful day of school."
I smiled as I drove out of the parking lot and to the carnival. Since I performed there, I got discounts on food and tickets. That and both Violet and I loved going to the carnival. It was where we first went when I needed to get away from my drinking problem and I was proud to say that I hadn't drank alcohol in a while.
I pulled into the parking lot and Violet and I got out of my car. "So," I said, throwing my arm around her shoulder. "Where to first?"
"Hmm....Let's just walk around for a bit," Violet said. "Look around for a bit."
"There's really no point in looking around," I said as we walked to the entrance, hand in hand. "I perform here four days a week and you've been to all of my performances. We know this point like the back of our hand."
"Yeah, but I still want to walk around," Violet said. "I like walking around places."
"Walking around it is," I said. "But we better find something to do shortly after because I get bored too fast."
"Yeah, I know," Violet said. "That's what I get of all the times you fall asleep in English, chemistry, algebra, and basically any class that involves work."
"Hey, it's not my fault," I said. "It's the teachers' fault for being so boring."
Violet smiled. "Yeah, some of them are. I have to agree with you there."
"How do you even pay attention in class?" I asked.
"I have no idea," Violet said. "I guess my attention-span is very long."
A little boy who couldn't be more than eight walked up to us. "Are you Hunter Bolton?" he asked with a big smile.
"Yes?" I said.
He smiled even brighter. "I saw you sing yesterday and I really really liked it! You're my favorite singer!"
I couldn't help but smile as well. "Thank you."
"I love music, too!" he said. "I want to be a singer when I'm older!" He then held out a pen and a notepad. "Can I have your autograph please?"
I had to admit, the little boy was too cute for me to resist. Nobody had ever asked for my autograph before. I didn't even consider myself to be famous, but here was a little boy saying I was his favorite singer and asking for my autograph.
I knelt down in front of him. "Of course," I said, taking the pen and notepad from his hand. "What's your name?"
"Zander," he replied.
"That's a cool name," I said with a smile before I started writing something on his notepad while saying it out loud. I wanted to give him more than just my signature. "Dear Zander, Don't ever give up your dream." It took a while to write but honestly, it was worth it.
After I finished writing it, I added my autograph and handed it back to him. "There you go."
"Thank you!" Zander said. "Bye!"
"Bye," I said as he ran off.
"That was so cute," Violet said as I stood up. "I don't think I can stop smiling."
"Same," I said. "I'm going to remember that kid. Kind of made me feel that me performing is actually meaning something to others."
"It definitely is," Violet said. "Everyone loves watching you perform. You're really talented."
"Thanks, Vi," I said. "Thank you for helping me with everything. I wouldn't be performing if it weren't for you."
"Of course I wanted you to perform," I said. "Like I said, you're so talented and your talent shouldn't go to waste."
I wrapped my arms around her in a hug. She hugged me back. "I'm probably going to keep saying it," I said. "Thank you so much."
"You're welcome," Violet said. "Now let's go do something fun."
__________
