Chapter 16
I wasn't exactly the most helpful person when it came to setting up for events. I either did one thing and hid in the washroom, or rested somewhere while I listened to music. Today, while setting up for the reunion, it was the latter.
I was laying on the front row of the bleachers with both of my earphones plugged in, air-drumming to the music that was playing. It was way more fun than setting up.
I felt someone's presence nearby, but I continued air-drumming because I could. Well, that was until the person decided to yank one of my earphones out. "You're slacking," Violet said. "Even Cannon's doing more than you."
"Setting up for events isn't really my thing," I said, sitting up and pausing my music.
"Let me guess," Violet said. "You think that just because your girlfriend is the head of the decoration committee, you'll to slack?"
"Yes."
"Yeah, she's not letting you off," Violet said.
"She's referring to herself in the third person," I pointed out.
"She's hoping her boyfriend gets off his lazy butt and helps out."
"Her boyfriend needs some motivation."
Violet sighed but smiled, resting her hand on my cheek before pressing her lips on mine. "There. Is that enough motivation?"
I gave her a quick kiss before standing up. "For now." I put my phone and earphones back in my pocket. "So, boss. What shall I do?"
Are you good with sound systems?" Violet asked. I nodded. "Good. Cannon needs some help."
"No, I don't!" Cannon called from the sound system. "Cannon never needs help."
"He's been setting it up for half an hour," Violet said. "I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually know how to hook it up, only to use it. Can you help?"
"Of course," I said before walking over to Cannon. "I'm helping whether you like it our not."
Cannon frowned. "Fine. Whatever. See if you can do any better than me."
I knelt down at the sound system, examining all the wires. "Seriously, Cannon? Did you just plug things in randomly and hope for the best?"
"What? No," Cannon said after a scoff. "I know what I was doing."
"Uh huh," I muttered, pulling out a wire. "For one thing, you plugged two identical wires in different outlets. You only need one."
"Right. I knew that."
I rolled my eyes and began fixing the mess Cannon made with the wires. He really did not know how to set it up. "By the way," I said. "Thank you for playing that really awkward song at the dance."
"You kissed her though, didn't you?" Cannon asked.
"....That's besides the point. And technically, she kissed me, so....How did you know I liked her, anyway?"
Cannon smirked. "I've been your best friend since the day I was born. I can read you as easy as a book. And your dad told me."
Note to self: Never trust my dad again. He did not know how to keep a secret, unless it was his. Blabbermouth.
