Chapter 22
In just a matter of months, I was actually able to write a whole album and a bunch of people bought it. I was getting booked in many places to perform songs, and I even had to quit my job at the carnival. It was a bit disappointing since I loved performing there, but I was getting extremely busy.
However, even though everything seemed to be going good, it really wasn't. Everything started falling apart.
I was invited to be interviewed on The Kathryn Show, but it was the same day as the date night Violet and I had been planning for a long time. It took me a while to decide what to do, which was stupid of me. I knew I had to put Violet first since she was the one who helped me get this far, but it was a huge opportunity to be on The Kathryn Show.
In the end, I chose both. I figured that as long as everything on the show would stay on schedule, I could make it to the date afterwards in no time. That meant I couldn't stay backstage after I was interviewed, but I was sure everyone would understand.
Hopefully.
"What are the rules I told you?" Dad asked me minutes before it was my turn to go on.
I sighed. "Dad, you already asked me, like, ten times." Dad raised an eyebrow. "No cursing, no shaming people, and be completely honest. Though I don't know why you would think I would shame people."
"I'm just being careful," Dad said.
"I've been on here before," I said.
"Yes, with me and your mom," Dad said. "This is all about you. Your music, not your parents. You've come far, Hunter. It's time for the world to see that."
"Thanks, Dad," I said, giving him a hug. Lately, we haven't been arguing that often. It could be the fact that he was normally focusing on mom and her pregnancy since the baby was due to be born next month, but hey. As long as we weren't arguing.
A few minutes later, Kathryn announced for me to go on set. Having everyone in the live audience cheer and applaud as I walked on the set gave me such a good feeling. It was moments like these that I was happy I chose to pursue the music career.
When I was sitting on the chair provided for the guests on the talk show, the audience quieted down. "Thank you for coming onto the show, Hunter," Kathryn said.
"Thanks for having me," I replied.
"You've made it pretty far since the world first met you," she said. "A few months ago, everyone found out you were the first child of Austin and Maybelle Bolton and now, you're signed to a record label and you've written an entire label. What does the sudden change feel like?"
"Well, it was difficult at first," I said honestly, following my dad's rule of always telling the truth on the talk show. "I wasn't really that known at school, but then after everyone found out that Cameron in my uncle and Austin and Maybelle are my parents, a lot of attention was focused on me because it's hard ignoring the fact that the child of celebrities have been going to your school the whole time."
Kathryn nodded. "Yes, that's true. There's always something exciting about seeing someone who knows a celebrity, whether by being related to them or being friends with them. So, your album. Was it difficult to write?"
"A bit," I said. "I love music a lot, but sometimes, I got major writing blocks. But in the end, I ended up finding the inspiration I needed and completed the album."
