So Little Crow started walking to a friend's house and sat down on the steps with. him.
"How's it?" asked Little Crow handing him some smokes.
"Pilamaya" (thank you), things have changed, what's up," said Pete Chasing Horse in the Lakota language.
"I think "ectomy" is playing with me?" asked Little Crow.
"Most people think of "ectomy" as coming to them in a form of a spider, some offering of tobacco would be a good start and make some tobacco ties, if things don't change, I'll hold a healing ceremony for you. Remember human beings don't control anything, spirits do," said Pete Chasing Horse.
So he went home and did what Pete Chasing Horse asked him to do. Then he went into the living room and started watching the news.
"I mailed off your letter today," said White Dove.
"Thanks, mom," said Little Crow, burning the sage.
"Well," said Rock Crow.
"We shall see tomorrow," said Little Crow.
"Washte, remember you'll be helping around the house and chores and whatever grandfather needs," said Rocky Crow.
"Yes sir," said Little Crow going into his room.
"Goodnight," said Rocky Crow.
"What are we going to do with him?" asked White Dove.
"You can sell him, I wonder how much you'd get over in rapid," laughed Kicking Bird.
"Son," laughed Rocky Crow.
"He's your brother, what he needs to do is spend more time with Grandfather," said White Dove.
"Yeah, that's true, but he is not going to do that, he likes doing things his way," said Kicking Bird.
"Too bad, he is going to do it whether he likes it or not," said White Dove.
"All right let's go to bed, it's getting late," said Rocky Crow.
So they went to sleep. The next morning it was time for Kicking Bird to go to school and Little Crow had to stay home from school. Little Crow got up as his brother did and sat down at the kitchen table while White Dove fixed breakfast.
"Do you think Big Man's parents got the letter?" asked Little Crow.
"I believe so," said White Dove.
"You don't want to be late son," said Rocky Crow going to the truck to go to work.
"See ya mom," said Kicking Bird running out the door to catch the bus.
"So you want to help me today?" asked Mom.
"Sure," said Little Crow.
"Good, we're going to rearrange the porch today and paint the inside of the porch.
"Sounds good to me," said Little Crow.
White Dove and Little Crow started to take the stuff from the porch when Grandfather came over to help.
"Hi Grandfather," said Little Crow.
"Morning, I came over to give you guys a hand," said Grandfather.
"Thank you, were going to move everything off the porch so we can paint," said White Dove.
"Sounds good, what color?" asked Grandfather taking chairs down.
"Yellow, since our house is blue, I'd figure a nice yellow would do just fine," said White Dove.
"It will make it very colorful," said Little Crow.
"Yes, it will," said White Dove.
So, they continued to move stuff off the porch. Once everything was cleared off they went to painting the porch. The mailman arrived.
"I'll go check," Little Crow getting up from sitting down.
He walked over to the mailbox and opened it. He looked for an envelope and found it.
"Did it come?" asked White Dove.
"Yes I have it," said Little Crow.
There was a thank you card in there, they were not going to sue or press charges, they said it was a fight that went wrong.
"Well?" asked White Dove.
"They are not going to press charges on us," said Little Crow.
"Thank goodness," said White Dove with relief.
"You are a very lucky kid," said Grandfather.
"I know that now," said Little Crow.
"Good," said Grandfather drinking a glass of tea.
Kicking Bird comes walking up.
"Wow it's three already?" asked White Dove.
"Hey mom, hey this looks great, I like it," said Kicking Bird.
"Thank you, we painted the inside as well," said White Dove.
"I can see that it is really nice," said Kicking Bird.
"Thank you," said White Dove.
Kicking Bird walked inside to change his clothes, he went back out to help put the stuff back on the porch where it belongs.
"We got the letter back from Big Man's parents," said Little Crow carrying a plant back to the corner of the porch.
"And," said Kicking Bird.
"They are not going to press charges," said Little Crow.
"Well that is great news, I know dad would be thrilled," said Kicking Bird.
"Speaking of your dad here he pulls up," said White Dove.
"Hey guys, looking good I like it," smiled Rocky Crow.
"Thank you, sweetheart, I'll go in and wash up to start dinner," said White Dove.
"Good deal," said Rocky Crow.
Grandfather went home to wash up for dinner, the boys took showers and went in the living room and turned on the television.
"Dad,' said Little Crow.
"Yes," said Rocky Crow.
"The letter came through the mail today," said Little Crow.
"And," said Rocky Crow.
"They are not going to press charges, they said it was a fight gone wrong," said Little Crow.
"What a relief son, I'm glad to hear that, I was getting a little worried," said Rocky Crow.
"I know dad, it's just I get so mad easily about small things that are not really worth fighting about," said Little Crow.
"True, it could have been prevented if you would have walked away," said Rocky Crow.
"Dinner is ready," said White Dove setting it on the table.
"Smells good mom," said Kicking Bird.
"Thank you," said White Dove.
So they gathered around the table and started eating. When they finished they cleaned up and went to bed.
