chapter 28

RECAP: ITS THEOS BIRTHDAY. CHLOE IS ALMOST TAKEN BY THE GUY AT THE BAR AND THEO SAVES HER

THEOS POV
i hold her in my arms and pull her as close to me as possible.

she stops sobbing and whispers "thank you."

"of course." i whisper into her hair, "do you want to talk about it?"

she softly shakes her head "no not right now. i just want to sleep."

"okay I'll take you home." i carefully grab my phone out of my pocket and call a cab.

within minutes the cab is here. i gently set her down and sit down next to her.

the taxi pulls up to her house and once we are out and standing i finally break the silence.
"can i ask you something?"

she shrugs "i guess."

"did you know him? the guy at the bar?"

"no. we barely talked before that."

i look at her "talked how?"

she shakes her head "it's complicated."

"okay i wont make you get into it. it'd be like reopening the wound."

we get to the door and she scrambles to get her keys out of her bag. she struggles to find them but soon does and unlocks the door.

"well i should be going now. have a good night chloe." i say as i start to walk away.

she grabs my hand with tears in her eyes, "no please stay."

"why?" i let all my emotions from the past couple months out, "it's not like we are friends. i mean you texted me early saying 'happy birthday asshole.' that doesn't exactly scream friendship."

at this point tears are streaming down her face. she doesn't talk for a good minute and i start to walk away.

"goodnight chloe." i say as i walk down her steps.

"theo wait!" she yells

i turn around expecting her right in front of me, but she hasn't moved.

"im sorry that i sent that but can you imagine how i felt know that it's the love of my life's birthday and you can't do anything about it because they cheated on you. do you know how that feels?" she laughs,
"and while im at it im still in love with you! i think i always will be. but i can't be with someone who would cheat on me, and now you have a baby with! i wish things could be different but they can't."
she laughs again, "i guess the universe has it out for me. with this, the fact my sister has an ulcer, i haven't seen my dad in over a year, my mom is married to some ass that i hate, you cheated on me, zac left me alone at the bar knowing how i felt tonight just to hook up with some girl, and most of my friends haven't talked to me in months."
she stops and looks up, then screams "you hear that universe!! fuck you!' I've had enough of your goddamn bullshit!! give me your worst!!"

we hear the crack of thunder and feel cold wet pellets hit us and she just looses it. her knees buckle beneath her, she collapses on the steps leading to her door and cries.

slowly i move towards her not knowing what to do or think but there is one thing that i know, I'm shocked, i didn't think she would still feel the same way about me that i felt about her. i don't know what to think right now.
