A Way to Ever

I woke up from a good night's sleep. I got up, ate breakfast, and went back to my room. I realized I hadn't looked at my wand yet. So I took it out of my bag and saw that it had a dragon tail on the end. The handle had millions of scales hand carved into the wood. Steel outlined the scales, but the rest of the wand was made out of dark brown wood. Overall, the wand was unique and pretty. I wondered how I would use it. I looked at the packet I received on my birthday. I flipped to the page about dragon magic. I saw a picture of a wand similar to mine and a whole page about the kind. It stated that I had to be at Evelan, Ever by February 20th. At the college, I would learn powers from a personal trainer. I would pick out my dragon after I learn how to create a new species, destroy a species, and clone a random animal they give me.

Soon I realized that there was no way for me to get to Evelan. How would I learn my magic? I wish I could ride Magic. I had gotten dad to check on her, and he said that she broke her leg. She fell on it the wrong way, so now she has to wear a cast. I feel so guilty, but I guess I can't fix it now.

"Can you take me to Ever?" Maybe my dad could take me there. He travels a lot because of trading anyways.

"Sorry, kiddo. I'll be in Dawnah for the next few weeks."

"What? You didn't tell me about this!"

"I didn't find out until early this morning. I'm sorry-"

"How am I supposed to get to Ever by myself?" Usually parents would come along to watch their children learn and grow.

"I think you're old enough to handle it." At that point, he left to go to San for a small trading route, which would take up the rest of the day.

I'm old enough? Thirteen does not sound like an age to be leaving the state by themselves! He's gone most of the time with trading,  so I probably should have expected this...

I ate my lunch of mac and cheese, and was ready to go into town. I grabbed my money and locked the house door. Town was only a five minute walk away, so I had no problem getting there. I bought everything dad told me to buy: bread, milk, the usual stuff. I was ready to go home, but I saw the fruit stand. I could get him some fruit, as a sorry for getting mad at him. Especially since it was something he couldn't get out of. I had a couple extra dollars, anyways. The line was long, so Ikind of just studied the market, and looked around at the walls and stands. Then I looked in front of me. The girl I was standing behind had a wand in her bag. I looked a little closer, and saw small scales. Another Dragon kind!

"Excuse me." My voice sounded almost silent, and weak in the noise of the crowd.

She turned around and smiled. "May I help you?"

"Yeah, ummm, I saw your wand in your bag, and I'm a Dragon kind too, but I was wondering if you could take me to Ever. My horse's leg is broken, and my dad is a trader." I should not be social, because that's what happens. I sound so awkward!

"Oh, sure! My dad is taking me there. We have a ton of horses you could take. You can travel with us if you want. We're leavng on Saturday. "

"OK, yeah, sure. How 'bout you come to our house with another horse, and then I'll come along."

"That'll work."

I handed her a piece of paper with my address on it. "Here is my address. By the way, what's your name?"

"Tya. And yours is-" she said, clearly waiting for me to answer.

"Sola. Just like the state."

"Oops, it's my turn in the line." She turned around and picked up her fruit. I waited for her to be done. When she was done, she turned around and smiled. "Guess I'll see ya on Saturday."

"Bye."

"Goodbye."

Well that whole problem is solved.

I bought two apples, and a peach.  Then I made my way back home. When I got there, I set the fruit on the table for my dad when he gets home at 10:00 PM. I'll talk to him about Tya in the morning. For now, I need some sleep.
