After eating, I took some bread rolls for Vellath. I realized, while getting it food, that I have no idea what dragons eat. Bread rolls was the safest bet, so I took three.

I didn't want to leave Tya alone, since only two other people stayed that long to train. So I took her to see Vellath for the second time, but this time she knows what it is.

I walked in and Vellath ran up to me.

I laughed, but Tya screamed and stepped backwards.

"Vellath! Here, Vellath!" I said, kneeling on the ground.

It was so clumsy, and fell several times. It gave up on running and flew over to us. Tya was more scared than happy to see this legendary dragon, but I was scared and confused at first too. I couldn't blame her.

"Here," I said. I stood up and handed her one of the bread rolls from a paper bag.

"You want me to feed it? We don't even know if it likes bread."

"Fine." I said this with a sarcastic sigh. "I'll do it first."

Vellath floated down to the ground and looked at me. I realized it wasn't going to take it from my hand, so I set it on the ground. Vellath took it in its mouth with his short, but sharp, teeth. Throwing it into the air, Vellath caught it again and ate it in one bite. Then it looked back at me. After a couple seconds it shifted its eyes to Tya, who was still holding the bread roll.

She slowly made her way up to Vellath, who was standing impatiently and rocking back and forth on its feet. When Tya got close enough, it straightened and was barely taller than her. She cowered, and placed the bread roll on the ground. Keeping her eyes on Vellath, she backed up so she was next to me.

I was laughing at her, for Vellath was so friendly and she was scared of him.

"Why isn't he eating it?" She sounded disappointed.

"What?" Vellath was standing there with the bread roll at his feet. "Oh. I-"

Vellath began to push the bread roll along the ground with his nose. At first I didn't know what he was trying to accomplish.

After a while, it became clear he was pushing it to Tya.

"It wants you to have it," I said, still watching Vellath. Was this like a peace offering? It could be. Vellath can sense what others are feeling, so I wouldn't be surprised.

"But I don't want it." I couldn't help it, I laughed.

"Well, too bad," I said still chuckling a little.

The bread roll was now at Tya's feet, and Vellath took steps back to show it was hers. Tya picked it up and held it out.

"This is yours, Vellath. It's for you to eat." Suddenly, Tya sounded calm. I don't know what made her calm all of a sudden, but I had no complaints.

Vellath cocked his head to the side, then took it out of her hand. It did it so gently that Tya would only feel a brush of scales on her skin. Vellath ate the bread quickly.

Tya laughed and I laughed, too.

"Vellath is cute," she said. "Even if it is my height."

"It acts like a dog too," I commented.

"I wish all of them did. It would be much more fun."

"Yeah." That was all I could say. The image of Messa, showing no connection between itself and Tya, was still sad. Dragons, I guess, are meant to be used as protection. Not pets. I have a feeling Vellath can be both.
