I fell asleep easily that night, probably because I was so tired from worrying. So when my alarm clock went off, I jumped out of my bed and headed straight for the kitchen. I prepared my gourmet breakfast of cereal and orange juice, got dressed, brushed teeth, and brushed my hair. I was ready to go. Where this motivation to get to class early came from, I don't know. But when I walked out of the bathroom, Tya was still eating breakfast.
"Why are you so awake today?" said Tya, amazed at how quickly I got ready.
"Don't know," I answered, shrugging.
"Okay, then," she replied with a laugh hidden in her words.

"Alright, class. I graded your papers." Mr. Cadei said this looking down at the stack of papers in his hand. "This has never happened before, but all of you seemed to have-"
He stopped for a long enough moment for me to think, please say passed! Please say passed!
"Passed."
Everyone cheered, but I yelled the loudest.
"Yes!" I blurted out, having no shame. I looked in Tya's direction. She was laughing, definitely at me. Everyone looked at me, too. Some laughed, some looked confused. But like I said. No shame.
"Continuing on," said Mr. Cadei, interrupting my celebration. "Tomorrow you will be getting your test to see whether or not you get your dragon. And yes, this pretest will count for your final grade. Twenty five percent of it. However, the test is slightly harder. I suggest you study. You can use your time now to do so."
He sat down behind his desk. All of the students, including me, high fived and cheered again. I ran across the room to Tya.
"How did we pass?" I had to yell over the noise.
She shrugged. "I have no idea, but who cares? We have a chance to get a dragon!"
The idea of having a dragon sounded wonderful. Even if a Dragon kind doesn't have one, they're still a Dragon kind. They just have less power. At this point, I have no doubt that I will have my very own dragon by the end of the week.

The next few days in class weren't anything special. We basically studied, answered random question that might be on the test.
That's the thing. Mr. Cadei never told us what was on the test. He just told us if something might be on the test. He is a strange teacher, but nice. He always seems to want us succeed.
That's all I want, too.
After three days of studying, it was finally the day before the test. Each student had every single book printed for us to learn from. We all had our notebooks full of notes, and I had the most. I was always jotting something down, even if no one else had just a pencil in their hand. You could say I was determined to earn my right to a dragon. And you would be right, since I was determined now more than any time before.
This has been the most stressful, but fun, time of my life. Just like I preicted earlier.
That night, I didn't study. If I slept, I would feel more awake, remember more. So, I went to bed early. Before closing my eyes to sleep, I looked over to the two beds, standing untouched since the day we came here. I still always wonder why they haven't been filled. Maybe more people got placed in other states. I think I saw somewhere that the Fire kind had more people than usual. No need to think about that now.
I moved my head slightly to look at Tya, sleeping. I had convinced her that getting a good night's sleep was better than studying, after a long while of course. She realized I would not give up on the idea, even if studying sounded way more logical.
But thinking about it now, Tya did not seem worried about the test.
I closed my eyes and thought. I wish I could be more like her.
