I slowly got up an looked out the one and only window in the dorm room. The sun rose the opposite way, so I saw a shadow of the building. I blinked my eyes everal times, for they were still really tired. I must have slept a long time last night. Why did I go to bed so early?
Oh, yeah.
I sprung out of my bed and yelled, "Tya wake up! The test is today!"
"I am awake," she replied. I turned towards the sound of her voice. She was in the kitchen, reading a book.
"Whatever," I mumbled, and left to change out of my pajamas.
This morning, I ate more than cereal and orange juice. Tya offered to make eggs and bacon. How could I say no? I ate them quickly, because Tya was pushing me around. She said things like, "C'mon, hurry up! We don't have all morning." And, "Why are you so slow?" But she would say it sarcastically and with a kind smile, so I didn't mind. In fact, I laughed.
After all those words of 'encouragement' from Tya, we left the dorm room. Somehow the halls seemed much more lit today. So did Tya. She was in a happy mood. Maybe she thinks she has no problem with passing the test. I would too, if it weren't for all the maybes about the practice questions.
Tya and I were the first ones in the classroom. Even Mr. Cadei wasn't sitting behind his desk. Our attention was drawn to a small, wooden table in the middle of the room. There was one lamp sitting towards the back of the table, the light pointed down at a piece of paper.
We both walked up to the table in unison. I read what the typewriter-like lettering said:
"The test will be held in the training room. Please make your way there as soon as possible."
"Where's the training room?" asked Tya.
"Uh..." I looked around for any more signs or letters. There was one on the side door, and I pointed at it. The door was already opened. Tya followed me there.
"The training room is to the left," said Tya, reading the sign.
I opened the door to the training room. Immediately, noise filled the hall we just walked into. We weren't the first ones here. We were the last ones here, and everyone else's words were loud and excited. Tya smiled at the fact, but I was confused. Why was the test being held here?
"Okay, everyone! Settle down!" Mr. Cadei's orders were able to be heard over the noise. But everyone still talked, and ignored him completely. "Shut up!" It worked. Again.
"Why is the test in here?" That was the same voice that questioned the 'shut up' a couple days ago.
"What did you think the test was?"
"Like the pretest," answered the voice.
"This is a test for me to be able to see if you can be a Dragon kind. Shouldn't I see how well you handle a dragon?" He smirked. The room fell even more silent, if that was possible.
Chatter started up again, and this time Mr. Cadei ignored it. "I will call you off by name. The people who had the lowest score on the pretest will go first. Today some training will be started, but continued until the dragon's test in five days."
I waited for the voice to question him again, but no one did. I thought about asking him why the lowest scores go first. I ruled out that option, since I probably had a low score. I could get my dragon first. Close to first, at least.
"The one with the lowest score, is Dawnah."
Dawnah made her way up to the front of the crowd, and stood next to Mr. Cadei.
