Chapter Twenty Three

*Ember's POV*

Lizzy stood, a convenient breeze blowing through her blonde hair and exposing her purple-tipped elf ears. "These people are all innocent! Look at them, they are just teenagers! I mean, all of us cause trouble once in a while, but we never really want to harm anyone. They were just looking for clothes, and Your Majesty, you have a very nice, fashionable boutique." Notch flushed a deep maroon at her tactful flattery. "We shouldn't be killing people because they needed clothes, or because they loitered in the music shop, or because they have magic. It doesn't matter about that. We should only consider killing if they killed someone, but that would make us just as bad as them, wouldn't it?

"Now, Your Majesty the King, can you let my friends go?" Liz finished her mini speech and looked at her adopted father. While everyone was looking at them, I burnt through the handcuffs on us and Seto did the same. We went around doing it to everyone and quickly ran away into the castle.

"HEY! THEY'RE GETTING AWAY!" An onlooker shouted. The mob of people gathered to watch the wizards die roared and somehow conjured pitchforks and torches. They chased us around, occasionally getting a good poke with the fork or a burn with the torch, but usually we stayed ahead.

I grumbled; we had circled the same street over and over again. I launched myself up and onto the castle walls, and began climbing up. Sora was quick to follow, and Seto helped Poof up due to her unimaginable smallness, letting Kai, River, and Dusty up. He backed up the rear, ready to protect us. "Guys," Sora shouted. "Hold still! I'm casting an illusion thats gonna be pretty intense!" We stopped, gritting our teeth, and a hologram of us began circling around. Beads of sweat appeared on her brow, but we all continued climbing the tower.

I hauled myself over the top with a near-collapsing Sora. "I can't hold it anymore..." She gasped, and lifted the illusion.

I helped Poof up and waited for River and Dusty. They came up, but Seto was nowhere to be seen. We heard a yell. I gasped and leaned over the edge. Seto was dangling from about 7/8ths up. "Oh, God," I mumbled woozily. I lowered myself down and began shimmying towards him, but when I looked over my shoulder, there was a soldier aiming his crossbow directly at my friends! Seto was swinging precariously, the threat of him falling looming ominously. I quickly devised a plan and continued going down. The soldier shot, and I threw a fireball up and incinerated the arrow before it could hurt my friends.

Seto was within arm's length when he lost hold. I swung wildly for his hand, but he was too far down. "SETO!" I shrieked, watching my friend falling to his death. His hood came undone, and I remembered that time nearly a year ago when we first met, that day when I was a stuck-up, spoiled little girl, and he was a lonely mage cursed to have everything explode.

I looked away, tears stinging my eyes, and climbed back up the tower. I swung back over the side. "Ember, look!" Poof cried, pointing to something in the distance. I looked down, and a girl was...flying? With Seto in her arms?! They whooshed past us, and settled down on the roof.

"Oh my God, I thought I was gonna die," Seto said weakly, wobbling.

"Who are you?" I muttered. The girl was wearing a platinum blue dress with silver bracelets of all different sizes lining her arms, legs, neck, and even in her long, blonde hair!

"My name is Lauren. I've been trapped in here with Notch for years, but I finally unlocked the window and saw him falling past it! So I broke the window and flew down to...what?"

"How can you fly?" I whispered.

"I was born in the Aether. I pretty much have all powers of Air. So, anyways, I flew down, and just as he was gonna hit the ground, I swooped down and saved him. By the way, who are you all?"

We introduced ourselves and our powers, excepting Kai, who we knew nothing about. "Kai, what's your power?" Poof asked curiously.

"I'm..." He faltered. "Ever heard of a guy named Jet?" He asked. Thoughts of the handsome, dark squid hybrid filled my mind. (A/N lol that's just funny...a dark, handsome SQUUUIIIIIDDDD)

"Yep," I breathed.

"Yep," Seto scowled.

"He's my older brother. I'm literally just a minute younger than him, but I was born sick, so I had to stay down underwater while he went up and got himself kidnapped, that little git," Kai rolled his eyes.

"So you have the same powers?" Poof asked.

"Pretty much, but mine are stronger because they were fueled when I was younger. My parents thought I was gonna die, so my dad gave me so much of his ink, my powers are overloaded."

"Great! You can help us kill Notch!" I grinned.

"No," he paled. "Notch is like a father to me! My own dad disowned me when he caught me graffitiing on the Shrine of Seas."

Seto stifled a laugh. "Why were you doing...pfft...that?"

Kai scowled. "Because isn't that the thing cool teens do?"

Seto burst out laughing. "No," he said between laughs, "that's what delinquents do!" As Seto got up and brushed himself off from rolling on the floor, Kai punched him in the face. Seto fell back down, clutching his nose, which was bleeding profusely.

"KAI!" I snarled, getting down on my knees and sweep kicking him. He fell flat on his face. Seto was performing a healing spell for his nose, which hadn't broken but was bruised. I stood over him, my lip curled, and snapped, "Who's side are you on? Ours, or Notch's?"

Kai cast a regretful look at Poof. "Family comes first..." He got up and brushed himself off.

A/N: IK CRAPPY PLACE TO END...BUT I NEED TO KNOW IF YOU GUYS WANT A KAILANA MOMENT (it's called Kailana because Poof IRL is the 'lana but I won't tell you her real name without her consent)! I will be working on Chapter 24 without the ship and if you want me to add a Kailana moment I will.
