Chapter Nineteen

*Jet's POV*
Students at Sorcery Academy usually got, at the most, 2 hours of sleep each night, due to the constant alarms going off. Five students had gone missing almost two months ago, and it was strange that I knew them. The ice elemental, Poof, who River was probably crushing on, the illusionist, Sora, the shapeshifter, Toboe, the super hot--uh, temperature wise--pyromancer, Ember, and that dreaded Ender Sorcerer. Probably went on some magical adventure to Candy Mountain, or something. A/N GET THIS REFERENCE PLEASE...little did Jet know he wasn't far from the truth.

*River's POV*

I barged in Jet's room panting. "Dude. You have to see this." I turned the little, outdated TV on and flipped to the news channel. I sparked the remote a little bit, putting water on the batteries, and pretty soon I rewinded to the beginning of the episode. "Breaking news, citizens of Quarry City: Herobrine is on a rampage through the city!" A pretty woman sitting at a table exclaimed, emphasizing with overdone hand gestures. The scene switched to a badly focused video of Herobrine casting lighting upon a village at the edge of the city. His eyes were a blinding, furious white as he screamed words I couldn't comprehend. He struck down people one by one, spreading white-hot fire and sparks everywhere he went.

As he neared the cameraman, I could see beads of tears in his eyes, quickly evaporating. "It must have been you..." He breathed, sucking in a gasp.

The person filming yelped, "No, I didn't do anything!"

Herobrine roared, "WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?!" His palms crackled with electricity, and he flung a bolt at the camera. Flame engulfed it and the video erupted into static.

The woman returned to the screen. "Sightings of Herobrine suggest he is moving in a spiral; attacking villages near the edge of the city and working his way to the center. Our sources report that he is tireless, looking for a girl. Please, everyone, we need you to stay safe, and if you see a girl named,--" she glanced down at the paper, "--Toboe Wolffe, a teenager attending a nearby academy, please sacrifice her to Herobrine. One death can prevent many." I shut the TV off.

"Bro, why is Herobrine doing this?" Jet asked in disbelief.

"Because he loved her," I said quietly. When Jet looked at me oddly, I retorted, "I'm good at reading emotions, okay?!" I cleared my throat, just as another barrage of alarms went out. "Dammit," I muttered under my breath.

I ran out of the room into my own just as a voice on the loudspeakers droned, "IF ANYONE SEES HEROBRINE ON CAMPUS, REPORT IT TO THE AUTHORITY STATIONED BY YOUR CORRIDOR."

Dusty was freaking out inside. "Man, what if he kills us? What if he feeds us to...I dunno, wolves or something?!" His feverish attitude caught on. We started running around yelling possibilities when we heard a growl in the corner. Herobrine stepped out of the shadows and punched through the wall. "DUDE! Why'd you do that?!" Dusty yelped.

"The wall was sassing me." Herobrine snarled in the wall's general direction.

"Uh...right." I cleared my throat. "So, Herobrine, why are you destroying everything...?" Even though I knew, I was just making sure.

Herobrine's white eyes narrowed and he scowled. "I...had an...agreement with her." He muttered carefully. Abruptly, with a flash of white light, Herobrine teleported away.

"Dude. We've got to go find her." Dusty said gravely.

*Toboe's POV*

Our paws scraped against the hot desert sandstone, sand billowing into the dry air. I heard Icefall and Oasis whimpering behind me, Flame panting, and even Ash looked worn out. I collapsed on the ground, my tongue lolling. The other wolves toppled over next to me. We lay there as the sun went down.

Eventually I lost the strength to keep our forms. "I'll keep watch," Ember said, as she was the strongest in this environment of all of us. One by one we fell asleep.

I awoke to the soft sound of feet on sand. Ember was drowsily getting to her feet, and I could see the others stirring, too. "Who's there?" She called. Her hand lit up with fire and it illuminated two sandy-haired boys, one with blue eyes and the other with brown.

"River?" Poof croaked. "Dusty? Am I hallucinating?"

River knelt down beside Poof. Her eyes were glazed over and she was panting. River generated some water and tipped it into her mouth. Poof's eyes cleared as she gulped down the water. He did the same with all of us, even Ember, who drank sparingly. "Great, now that we're all in a reasonable condition, I'd like to ask if any of you are Toboe Wolffe."

I sheepishly raised my hand. "Yeah, that's me..." I murmured.

Dusty whispered, "Dude, just grab her and run! We can give her to Herobrine and then the world will be safe!"

"What?" Seto spoke up. "Why would you take her? What's Herobrine even doing?!" River explained everything to us, how Herobrine was trashing the city because of our "agreement". "That still doesn't mean we should turn her in to Herobrine," Seto muttered stubbornly.

I sighed and stood up. "Guys, go on to Pixellaria without me. If Herobrine lets me go, I'll catch up with you," I smiled faintly. River cast Poof a somewhat sorrowful look and we headed back to the school.

*Poof's POV*

When I saw River walk away, it felt like he took a piece of my heart. "Wait!" I called, clumsily sprinting after them.

Dusty turned around. "What do you want?" He asked, not unkindly.

"I want to come with you," I replied breathlessly. Toboe looked back, glad to see she had at least one friend.

"Okay, everyone, I'm going to change us all into wolves," she chipped in. We all began to glow as we linked hands with her and began the strange process of turning into a wolf. Standing next to Crimson, a black and dark red wolf, were two males. Both were light in complexion, but the one sharing Crimson's chocolate brown eyes was slightly darker. The other had intense blue eyes and was a bit larger than the other.

"Check for your wolf name. It should be residing deep within you," Crimson directed. The two male's eyes glazed over.

River came to reality first. "My...wolf name...is Miller. I guess it represents one of those water mills, the wood things..." His voice trailed off. Dusty reported that his was Laterite, and we set off at a steady lope towards the school.
