Jenna stiffened as Kayto approached her. He dropped a rabbit in front of her. It was blooded and had teeth marks in it's neck, which wasn't helped by the fact that she wasn't hungry. Jenna bowed her head in a thanks. Kayto sat up as he turned back into a human. Jenna crawled out from beneath her den and began to eat.
"What's wrong, anyway?" Kayto asked and she lifted her muzzle to look at him. She shifted back into her human form and sighed.
"I guess I just miss Lycana," Jenna looked down again at her dinner and pushed it away a little. Kayto tilted his head to one side at the name of their home.
"No, that's not it," he replied "Maybe you miss someone there,"
"Yeah..." Jenna nodded "Yeah, I guess so. I guess I miss Rowan a little more then I did when we first came here,"
"I should have known," Kayto faked a smile. "It was easy for me. I wasn't friends with anyone, at least not close friends. I didn't have no one I loved. My only family had died years ago. I had no reason to stay in such a war torn land,"
"I want to go back..." Jenna murmured, sadly
"I couldn't let you." Kayto spoke, firmly "I promised your dying father I'd take care of you,"
Jenna thought back to the start of the war. Her mother had died years prior. Kayto's parents had died too. He stayed around the area where she lived. Her father offered for him to stay with them but Kayto was always a lone wolf. He had some sense of loyalty, though. Jenna had known him since they were children; She'd known him long enough to know that be was faithful.
Jenna's father was captain of the Royal Guard. He often worked along side the king. He had been in this position since before Jenna could remember. She had known the royal family for years. She had been close friends with Princess Skylar Jayce. Her brother, Prince Rowan Jayce, had been Jenna's boyfriend since just before the war started. After the war began, it was her father's job to protect the Royal family. Rowan was being trained to be a Royal guard at the time. Her father was killed during an attack on the borders. He'd been speared through the chest. He was taken back to the palace. Dying where he lay, on the marble floor, he asked Kayto to always protect Jenna. He only died when he was satisfied with Kayto's promise.
That was when Jenna and Kayto left. Knowing the true dangers of this war, Rowan gave Jenna necklace with purple crystal pendant. In the depths of the forest surrounding Lycana, was a tiny stone outhouse covered in ivy. Inside of it was small wolf statue, it's mouth hanging open. Once the pendant was pushed inside of the wolf' mouth, it opened a purple portal to the Human Earth. On the other side of the portal was the inside of cave where a similar statue resided. The cave was found across the stream and maybe a mile into the woodland. Although the teachers wouldn't let jewellery be worn at the school, Jenna often kept it in her pocket.
"I couldn't let you go," Kayto snapped her back into reality "Not unless I went too,"
Jenna gave him a look and he smiled, devilishly.
"I can't protect you if I stay here," He replied. "Maybe if I went too your father wouldn't mind,"
Jenna smiled. She wasn't hungry or tired. She was excited. She wanted to go.
"Should we go now?" Jenna asked
"School will wonder where we are," Kayto replied
"To hell with school," Jenna smiled "They won't care. A quiet girl who might as well be not there and an annoying boy. Good Riddance. I wouldn't matter to them and, even if it did, they'd never find us!"
Jenna felt her smile widen. Kayto got to his feet and stood by the stream.
"Are you coming or not?" He asked
"Why do you care so much all of a sudden?" Jenna stood up
"Life here is boring," he smiled "War and fighting and palaces sounds ten times better then this,"
They both transformed into wolves before crossing the river, splashing it's waters with their paws. They were gone, deep into the forest toward the hidden cave.
