Jenna opened her eyes and stretched. She got to her feet and smiled at the folded up clothes at the bottom of the bed. Rowan had left a pile of Skylar's clothes for Jenna to borrow. Jenna knew that Rowan had to off guarding the palace and patrolling the borders but she still wished that she could spend the day with him instead.
Jenna got changed and left to meet with the others. She found Skylar looking out of a window, watching something in the garden.
"Hi," Jenna approached their window and greeted her friend.
"Hey," Skylar smiled and turned back to the window. Outside, Kayto was running around as a wolf, frolicking about in between the rose bushes. "He's totally crazy,"
"Tell me about it," Jenna agreed with a laugh "He loves being a wolf. He always has. I just wanted to fit in. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to change but I just wanted to fit in, in the human world. Kayto just wanted to be a wolf,"
Skylar smiled and laughed, softly. "You can go and get him if you like, and we can have breakfast," Skylar told Jenna
"Okay," Jenna nodded and left the room. She found Kayto rolling around in the grass, as a blondish-grey wolf.
"Want any breakfast?" Jenna smiled. Kayto nodded and shifted back into human form before standing up. They walked back to the palace.
They all ate together, Kayto, Jenna and Skylar. Rowan had left early in the morning. Kayto stopped eating. He looked like he was thinking.
"What's wrong?" Jenna asked
"I was thinking..." Kayto paused "You ever think this war will be over?"
"Of course it will be," Jenna sighed "Maybe one day, it will be,"
"You said that about coming back," Kayto looked back at her "You said that maybe one day we'd go back to Lycana and we did. Maybe one day, this war will be over..."
Jenna smiled. Skylar looked across at the two and smiled as well.
"Yeah, maybe one day," She nodded.Kayto left to go and see Ty. He had left, promising he'd be back before sun down. Jenna had told Skylar she was going to find Rowan. Skylar had laughed at the two and smiled at their love-sickness.
Jenna found Rowan in the watch tower, in full amour, face covered by his helmet with a spear in his right hand. He had been watching the kingdom from his great view.
"Hi, Rowan," Jenna smiled
"Hi," Rowan smiled, briefly, only just breaking his previously perfect poker face. Jenna knew he wasn't supposed to be distracted but Rowan didn't seem to mind.
"Can I stay with you today?" Jenna leaned up against the edge of the watch tower's wall.
"Sure..." Rowan replied before flashing her a silent smile. Jenna looked out into the beautifully blue sky, past Lycana and into the surrounding forest."Hiya, Kay," Ty greeted the slightly taller boy with great excitement. Kayto had to admit that it was refreshing.
"Hey," Kayto smiled and stood touching shoulders with Ty.
"I don't have work to day so we could go out," Ty beamed. Kayto chuckled, slightly.
"Sounds good, Freckles," he purred and nuzzled at Ty's ginger hair. Ty's freckled face blushed a deep red. Kayto shifted into his wolf form and Ty, quickly, followed. Ty was smallish wolf with ginger fur and deep brown eyes. His muzzle and cheeks were dusted with speckles.
Ty followed Kayto through the streets and over fences in back alleyways. They found their way to a fence, leading into the palace gardens. Kayto had found a weak spot when he was in the garden that morning. He and Ty squeezed beneath the fence and ran towards the palace. Kayto barked to signal Ty to follow him under a bush. Kayto began to scratch at the wooden panel blocking a hole in the wall. Kayto and Ty crawled inside of the wall and wriggled in between the bricks. They made their way through the wall until they got to a set of beams that acted like stairs. The two wolves climbed up the beams and inside of the ceiling.
The ceiling had pretty patterns carved into it and Kayto could look through them and see groups of people below. It seemed there was a party going on; one that Kayto hadn't been invited to. There were men in army uniform and women in fancy dresses. Kayto spotted a table of food and began wagging his tail, happily.
He told Ty to wait outside of the room while he went in. Kayto went in as a wolf. He was wearing scruffy clothes and didn't look like he belonged in there. He stood with his paws resting on the table so that he could reach the food. Ty held back a giggle from his spot in the doorway at the sight of Kayto acting like a hungry dog stealing food from the table before it's owner notices.
Kayto wrapped up some food in a big silk napkin and grabbed it in his mouth. He bound out towards the door without noticing the blonde haired girl in an emerald green dress. Skylar bit back a laugh as she saw the guiltily looking wolf slunk out of the room.
Kayto turned back in a human and got to his feet.
"Come with me," he smiled and Ty transformed into his human form and followed Kayto.
Kayto lead him to the bottom of the palace's ground where there was a massive lake. He lay the napkin out on the grass. He and Ty sat beside each other and ate, while watching the sun set.Jenna smiled out towards the sun as it's set beneath the horizon.
"Hey, look!" She pointed at the bottom of the palace's grounds. Rowan smiled at the sight. Ty and Kayto were sitting, snuggled up to each other by the water's edge.
"I think it's time we go to sleep too," Rowan turned back to give his spear to the next guard who would take his place. Jenna smiled and took his hand so they could make their way back to their room.Ty was asleep, lying against Kayto's chest. Kayto lay back on the grass so Ty wouldn't fall from his resting spot. Kayto was careful not too breathe too heavily and wake Ty. He closed his eyes and tried to relax.
"Goodnight, Freckles..." He sighed and fell into a deep sleep, under the sparkling stars.
