One Day

Chapter Seven

Jenna and Rowan got up and went downstairs for breakfast. Rowan didn't have any guard duties early that morning.
They found Skylar down in the dining hall, eating the rest of her breakfast.
"Hey, have you seen Kayto this morning?" Jenna smiled and sat down beside her.
"No, he didn't come home," Skylar replied and continued to eat
"Right," Jenna smiled
"I guess he's still in the garden then," Rowan laughed
"In the garden?" Skylar asked, inquisitively
"Yeah, he fell asleep with Ty at the bottom of the garden," Jenna laughed
"We could see them from the watch tower," Rowan nodded
"And, what exactly could you see?" Skylar asked with a giggle
"Not much; they were just sleeping," Rowan began to eat his breakfast too and push a plate in front of Jenna.
"I never thought Kayto was the snuggly type," Skylar scratched her nose up and smiled. With that, Kayto appeared in the doorway with Ty by his side.
"Morning..." Kayto yawned.
"Hi," Ty waved. He seemed a little over-whelmed which was to be expected when you're in the presence of a prince and a princess. He knew Kayto and Jenna but he didn't know Rowan or Skylar all that well.
"You can go and get you and Ty some good if you like," Rowan suggested, politely.
"Thanks..." Kayto nodded and lead Ty of towards the kitchen to find something to eat.
"Kayto snuck into the party last night," Skylar told the others "He came in as a wolf, stole some food and ran off with Ty,"
Jenna smiled and eat her food.

"You wanna come on patrol with me?" Skylar asked
"Yeah alright," Jenna nodded. Kayto had already left with Ty and Rowan was guarding the palace.
Skylar went to get changed. Jenna went to the sword room to grab a weapon. She pulled the white and gold sword and shield out of the hands of the statue of Amos Silver. He father's shield fit nicely on her arm and the sword was half as heavy as she remembered.
Jenna met up with Skylar outside of the palace. There were two other guards waiting with Skylar.
"I see you have your father's sword and shield," Skylar smiled
"Well, if I were captain I'd be called Captain Silver like him," Jenna nodded and pushed her sword in it's sheath.
Th borders of the kingdom dark and the city was surrounded by forest. Jenna pulled a face at the two guard, dressing in full armour and turned to face Skylar.
"Where are your horses?" She asked, perplexed
"We don't need them," Skylar explained "Horseback travel is fast but Night Prowler don't do fast. They cheated; they don't playing by the rules. If we were riding horses they'd just spook 'em,"
Jenna nodded and followed Skylar and the guards. She understood; attacking a man then shoving his spear through his own heart while he was down wasn't fair.

The forest seemed quiet. They were exploring the opposite side of the forest to where Kayto and Jenna had first arrived at Lycana. There were no fireflies so this side it seemed. There was only darkness.
"Be careful here, my lady," one of the guards told Skylar "It's dangerous, your highness,"
"Danger? I laughed in the face of danger, ha ha ha haa!" She smiled. A cackle came from deep within the trees. It made Skylar jump back beside Jenna.
"Hey, there, Princess..." A tall dark haired man smiled. He had scars on his face and was wearing old looking leather. Another man appeared, only he was smaller and had grey hair. He too had many scars marring his skin.
"Night Prowlers..." Skylar whispered into Jenna's ear. The two guards pushed forward, holding their spears up. "Remember they don't play by the rules..."
"Neither do I," Jenna murmured before stepping forward in front of Skylar. The dark haired man shifted it wolf form and the smaller man turned to fight the guards. Skylar knew exactly what to do. She turned into a wolf and spun on her paws, racing back towards the palace. Jenna transformed in her wolf form and faced the dark wolf. He snarled and began circling her. Jenna did the same, leaving her sword on the ground. The dark wolf had his stone like eyes set on her. Jenna knew the guards were preoccupied with the other Night Prowler but she also knew she didn't need them.
She and the other wolf stalked around in one full circle before he pushed down to leap upon Jenna. She reached for the blade and held the handle in her jaws. As she jumped passed the other wolf, the sharp end of the sword sliced through his neck and side. Just as she landed the jump, his body fell to the ground with a thud. Jenna dropped the sword and caught her breath, only then noticing that the two guards had been left in their wolf forms, lying bloodied on the floor. Out of nowhere the smaller Night Prowler jumped on her, pinning her down. Jenna hit her head on a rock causing her body to go numb and for her to lose her balance. She tried hard to get up but the other wolf began snapping at her, catching one of her front legs in his jaw. Jenna yelped and bit his neck with her vice-like jaw, which made him stop. Suddenly, a black wolf throw himself onto the Night Prowler and swiftly caught his throat in his teeth. Jenna quickly turned back into a human and Skylar rushed over to help her up. The black wolf turned around to reveal it's odd amber and purple eyes. Jenna smiled a little before hauling herself up with the help of Skylar.
Rowan shifted into human form and made his way back over to Jenna.
"This was a diversion," he growled "There's been an attack back in the town,"
"Then, why the hell are you here?" Jenna asked, knowing it was Rowan's duty to protect the kingdom.
"I was saving your ass. Now, let's keep moving; Kayto and Ty are back there and they could be in danger," Rowan finished and transformed in a wolf. Jenna and Skylar followed before they all rushed back home.
